KXAN News is looking for a full-time dual role of assignment editor and digital content producer. This entry-level position is perfect for an applicant looking to gain insight into a dominant local newsroom and develop skills toward digital or broadcast news production. KXAN News focuses on in-depth and investigative coverage of 15 counties including Austin and surrounding areas.

Successful candidates:

Demonstrate ability to identify potential stories, research information, follow-up on ongoing stories.Have strong news judgment, organization skills and ability to communicate with the public and newsroom staff.Have strong journalistic writing skills and understanding of AP style.Multi-task well and prioritize under deadline.

Duties include:

Online writing/publishing of storiesContinuously monitoring and updating web content.Using social media to gather and publish informationAssisting morning producers and reporters with research, answering phones and providing strong customer service to callers.

Work Environment/Mental/Physical Requirements:

Position requires the operation of computer and editing software.High level of multi-tasking with daily deadline pressures.Must be available to work overnight and early-morning shifts.

The ideal candidate is a self-starter who can take on several tasks at once and see them through to completion.

Previous experience in a newsroom required with assignment desk and/or digital reporting/producing. A Bachelor`s degree in Journalism, Communication, or related field preferred.
