Collect blood samples from all age groups including neonates. Responsible for front and back office procedures, computer entry, collect blood samples, do basic lab test processing, set-up Microbiology cultures. Be able to organize workload to work effectively in a fast paced setting and prioritize duties for routine and stat testing.

Performs computer related test request and processing functions

a) Processes order entry accurately and efficiently. Checks with references as needed.  b) All programs are in correct sequence, timely and run to completion.  c) Processes LIS billing in a timely manner.

Collects blood specimens by venous and capillary puncture.

a) Proper adequate, specimen collected.  b) Patients satisfied with performance and courtesy.

Assists with technical functions.

a) Demonstrates ability to operate centrifuge. Pours off appropriate samples for reference lab send-out. Ability to verify specimen requirement with references as needed.  b) Completes assigned tasks satisfactorily and in a timely manner.

Communicates with patients, employees, doctors etc.

a) Communications are courteous, timely and effective.

Performs clerical functions.

a) Clerical functions are completed accurately and in a timely manner.  b) inventory control – monitor and orders supplies in a timely manner.  c) Files manual reports in a correct and timely manner.

a) Employee has the willingness and ability to perform additional duties and responsibilities in different areas of the department on an as-needed basis or as determined by management.  b) Follows established hospital and department policies.  c) No more than 2 written substantiated complaints representing a breach of policy, procedure or professional behavior since last evaluation.  d) Demonstrates the philosophy of team concept.  e) Participates in group projects and staff meetings with suggestions that enhance the work environment and increase productivity.  f) Communicates well with supervisor reporting problems with equipment, supplies, or procedures. Professional Growth and Development

a) Completes annual safety updates within established time frames.  b) Completes general and departmental orientation within established time frames.  c) Attends 80% of in-service programs.  d) Maintains licensure/certification as appropriate.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

A.                  Minimum Education:  HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATE

B.                  Minimum Experience: 2 YEARS ACUTE HOSPITAL EXPERIENCE

C.                  Required Certification/Registration:  CALIFORNIA CERTIFIED PHLEBOTOMY                               TECHNICIAN (CPT OR CPA) LICENSE REQUIRED, BLS
