Assistant/Associate Director Campus Programming & Engagement
Position Information Position Title Assistant/Associate Director Campus Programming & Engagement FLSA Exempt Primary Responsibilities The Assistant/Associate Director is a key member of the Student Activities team and supports efforts in positioning student activities as a hub for campus engagement, student connection, and co-curricular learning. This position provides leadership and vision within the functional areas of major campus programming and alternative programming. Leads efforts to establish a programming calendar that facilitates student belonging and engagement with particular attention to evening, weekend, and alternative programming. In addition, this position oversees the training and supervision of Orientation Leaders, organizes the annual Student Activities club fair, and advises clubs and organizations that aim to provide healthy alternative programming to campus. This position reports directly to the Director of Student Activities. This is a full-time, 12-month position. Remuneration includes a competitive salary and benefits package, commensurate with qualifications and experience. The anticipated start date for this position is June 1, 2025. This position has the option to be a live-in position with occasional on-call responsibilities in exchange for a furnished on-campus apartment and campus meal plan. Position Responsibilities + Provide leadership and advising to the Association for Campus Entertainment ( ACE ), the university’s campus programming board, including financial, risk, programmatic, operational, and administrative management. Actively support ACE to create vibrant and engaging campus programming experiences for students. This includes training for officers and chairs on operational issues, fiscal management, and liability. + Support and advise ACE chairs overseeing the Java music barn (the student-run music venue), Pub ’56 (the university pub), the annual fall and spring concerts, and other major campus programming and large-scale events. Leverage these campus spaces and events to promote campus traditions and foster meaningful student social interactions. + Negotiate, review, and submit for signature contracts on behalf of the University for speakers, programs, and entertainment. + Serve as an advisor to organizations focusing on substance free living and/or alternative programming. Leverage organizations to further enhance alternative programming, healthy social engagement opportunities, and promote the university’s SLU THRIVES wellness initiative. + Oversee and support recreation organizations, including enhancing and maintaining campus awareness. Advise the administrative financial, programmatic, and risk management of these programs and position recreation organizations to facilitate and promote student belonging. + Serve as liaison with local organizations, including the St. Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce, to promote local amenities and events for students to engage with and enhance their experience. Integrate community partner opportunities with programs like new student orientation, general campus calendar, academic break programming, etc. + Support the Director of Student Activities in development of new student orientation, coordinating all aspects of the Orientation Leader program, including hiring, training, and supervision of student staff. Assist with execution of new student orientation and extended orientation, providing opportunities for first-year students to recognize and engage with ACE programming opportunities to aid in student connection and belonging. + Lead the planning, management, and implementation of the student club and organization fair at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters. Effectively advertise and promote this event to students, organizations, and campus departments. + In collaboration with the Director of Student Activities, integrate and ensure utilization of the student engagement app to promote campus engagement with events, organizations, and student belonging. + Support and assist the Director of Student Activities with organization management, including educational programming, officer training, the annual registration process, organization manuals, safe social host policy and process, and student organization conduct. + Support the office of Student Activities and student organizations in the creation, promotion, and execution of collaborative large-scale social programming targeting evenings, weekends, and key University-wide events including annual large-scale programming events. This may include support for Laurentian Weekend, Titus/Rail Jam, Scarlet & Brown Day, supporting senior week, or other high-risk, large-scale events. + Participate in appropriate staff development opportunities, serve on campus, community, and professional association committees, appropriately keep supervisors abreast of matters sensitive in nature, and other responsibilities as assigned. + Maintain student data and records in a manner that ensures confidentiality and aides in the assessment of programs and strategies + Other projects and duties as assigned. + Ability to work nights and weekends. Minimum Qualifications + A Bachelor’s degree is required. Master’s degree in a related field is preferred. + 2-5 years of prior experience in higher education as a professional staff member, graduate assistant, and/or a student paraprofessional leader is required; experience working with or supporting campus programming boards is preferred. + Demonstrate a proficient theoretical understanding and application of student development theory and an appreciation for working in an inclusive, multicultural environment at a private liberal arts college. + Understand emerging issues in higher education, particularly as it relates to campus programming, student advising, and leadership development. + Demonstrate intercultural competence and a commitment to advancing equity, inclusion, and social justice practices. + Comfortable with using and/or learning new technologies, software platforms, and A/V equipment. + Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends as student programming needs and major events require. + Possess initiative, personal integrity, excellent interpersonal communication skills, a collaborative spirit, and a good sense of humor. Preferred Qualifications Salary $60,405.80 - $64,000. Actual starting salary and level will be determined based on qualifications, experience, and other factors permitted by law.
