Faculty Rank or Job Title Assistant/Associate/Professor, Basic Science Medical Educator Job Category: Faculty/Instructional Department Medical Education-BSOM EEO number: 25Y004 Position FTE 100% Minimum Annual or Hourly Rate Negotiable Salary Band: NA FA Job Summary/Basic Function: The Wright Curriculum is fully-integrated across the basic and clinical sciences, in disciplines that include anatomy, biochemistry, biostatistics, clinical and evidenced-based medicine, experimental design, histology, immunology, microbiology, pathology, pharmacology, and physiology. This integrated curriculum requires a broad and complementary set of teaching faculty that collectively cover expertise across all of these disciplines.

There is an immediate need for teaching faculty across the following broad disciplines: clinical and evidence-based medicine, clinical microbiology/pathology, and medical physiology. The incumbent is expected to join a team of clinician and biomedical science educators who together lead and coordinate the “Foundations of Clinical Practice” phase of the BSOM fully integrated curriculum (https://medicine.wright.edu/student-life/curriculum/wrightcurriculum). Minimum Qualifications PhD, MD, DO or equivalent degree. Strong record of academic accomplishments in any of the following disciplines: anatomy, biochemistry, biostatistics, clinical and evidenced-based medicine, experimental design, histology, immunology, microbiology, pathology, pharmacology, and physiology. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.


Assistant Professor level candidates must meet all requirements above.

Associate Professor level candidates must meet all requirements above, plus have at least five years experience as an Assistant Professor with an exemplary scholarly portfolio and supervisory experience and meet all Associate Professor Promotion requirements.

Full Professor candidates must fulfill all the requirements of Associate Professor along with at least five years’ experience at the Associate Professor along with an exemplary scholarly portfolio and leadership experience and meet all Professor Promotion requirements.

Preferred Qualifications Experience teaching undergraduate medical students. Experience with engaged/active learning modalities (e.g., Team-Based Learning, Peer Instruction, problem-based learning). Experience with innovative curricular and instructional designs. Experience with mentoring students for Step One examination preparation. Essential Functions and percent of time: 50% Teaching Lead and coordinate modules of the integrated undergraduate medical school curriculum that fit the appropriate disciplines (according to candidate’s skill sets). Teach in the Foundations curriculum for discipline specific needs and serve on various curriculum related committees. Serve as a WrightQ (problem-based learning) facilitator. Develop, review, and refine assessments and course materials collaboratively with department faculty. This may include being a module co- director in 1-2 modules, and active teaching throughout each year of the FCP Curriculum. Other medical student teaching as assigned. Serve on relevant committees.


30% Student Support Create, implement, teach, evaluate, maintain, and direct an NBME Step 1 preparation curriculum for students in need or interested in a structured experience during Dedicated Study Time for NBME Step 1. Lead efforts to create, implement, facilitate, evaluate, maintain, and direct the Extended Study Elective for NBME Step 1 Preparation for students including but not limited to planning how students will transition from the Foundations Phase to the Doctoring Phase of the BSOM Wright Curriculum. Establish and maintain a list of students at risk for difficulty passing the NBME Step 1 Examination and meet with students to discuss strategies for learning success. This may include teaching relevant skills to students.
Essential Functions and percent of time (cont'd): 10% — Research
Maintain an active research agenda, with a focus on medical education and innovation curricular approaches.
