Business Systems & Analytics
The BSA major currently consists of three primary tracks that are designed to prepare students for careers that blend a strong business acumen with information systems, data analytics, and cybersecurity. The Business Systems track is designed for students who desire to serve as the "bridge" between business leaders and IT specialists by developing problem solving skills, learning how to think strategically about IT and implementing technological solutions. The Business Systems track prepares students for careers as project managers, business analysts, and IT consultants. The Business Analytics track is designed for students who want to analyze data to solve business problems by equipping students with skills for transforming data into information and actionable insights, improving business processes, and helping shape organizational strategy. The Cybersecurity track develops students to build, test, and analyze systems to keep data and information safe from hackers and other external threats.
In Fall 2024, the BSA department launched a Master of Applied Analytics program designed to equip students with a deep understanding of analytics' role in driving strategic and operational decisions. The graduate program is intended to develop professionals who can effectively interpret and apply data and analytics in a variety of business contexts by completing 30 credit hours of coursework designed around the three primary personas in analytics: Data Engineering, Data Science, and Data Analysis.
The BSA department is guided by an advisory board consisting of 28 industry professionals and alumna with work and leadership experience across the fields of information systems, data analytics, and cybersecurity. Companies represented on the BSA Advisory Board include Amazon, AllianceBernstein, Cat Financial, HCA Healthcare, KPMG, Microsoft, Nissan Schneider Electric, and Snowflake to name a few.
