Job Description
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Department of Theatre and Dance at Montclair State University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor of Dance to begin work on September 1, 2025. The successful candidate will join our nationally recognized Dance Division and will contribute to our mission of training the next generation of dynamic and diverse dance artists.
Interested applicants should have experience in teaching dance courses in higher education, a passion for inclusive pedagogy, a clear and focused creative agenda, and strong administrative skills. Responsibilities will include teaching a range of courses within the current curriculum for graduates and undergraduates, while also helping to expand and imagine our curriculum for the future. Additionally, this faculty member will contribute to the success and functioning of our program in ways such as mentoring students, directing dance concerts, curating repertory, choreographing for shows, and leading recruitment efforts both on and off campus.
Our department, located just 15 miles from New York City, is committed to building our national and international recognition in both equity and excellence. We nurture strong artistic talent and skills in our 130 students from across the US and beyond. We integrate dynamic professional artists as teaching faculty and guest choreographers to advance the mission of both the department and Montclair State University. We have ongoing community engagement projects and would welcome faculty who are excited to serve both the campus and surrounding community. This position offers the opportunity to join a team of core faculty members dedicated to continually evolving curriculum, repertory, and teaching approaches that support inclusive student learning and achievement.

QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates must have an MFA or PhD or the equivalent in professional experience, a strong record of university-level teaching excellence, experience in student mentorship, demonstrated administrative ability, and a significant record of work in the professional field.
