Nature & Purpose of Position/Usual Duties: The Department of Human Sciences at Sam Houston State University ( SHSU ) invites applications from qualified candidates for a tenure-track 9-month appointment as an Assistant or Associate Professor in Interior Design and Program Coordinator beginning in August 2025. The Department of Human Sciences is one of four academic units in the College of Health Sciences, and the Interior Design program is one of three and the largest undergraduate programs in the department with 105 students. The department offers a B.S., B.A., and minor in Interior Design, and holds accreditation from the Council for Interior Design Accreditation ( CIDA ) and the National Association of Schools of Art and Design ( NASAD ). The department is seeking a visionary and inspirational leader to drive the future direction of the interior design program with collaboration and innovative approaches to inspire the next generation of design professionals. This candidate will direct efforts as the Program Coordinator for the CIDA -Accredited program in Interior Design. Responsibilities of the position include: Teaches undergraduate courses at all levels of the Interior Design program. Oversees the program accreditation processes and reviews and contributing to ongoing program evaluation and improvement. Maintains scholarly/creative activities in interior design or related fields of study. Provides program, department, college, university, and professional service. Experience Required for the Position (Faculty Positions Only): Required, Rank of Assistant Professor: A minimum of three years of full-time professional design practice experience is required. NCIDQ certification is required or must be completed within the first year of employment. Demonstrated ability to conduct and publish scholarly research in peer-reviewed journals or creative scholarship equivalent.
