Job Summary Oregon State University – Cascades invites applications for a full-time (1.00 FTE ), 12-month, fixed-term Assistant/Associate Professor of Practice in Education position. Reappointment is at the discretion of the Senior Associate Dean. This position is located in Bend, Oregon. This fixed term academic faculty appointment is in the Bachelor of Science of Teaching and Masters of Arts in Teaching programs at OSU -Cascades. The incumbent will teach graduate and undergraduate courses, advise students, provide service to the program, college, university and profession, and produce scholarship. In the area of service, this person will serve on Cascades, College of Education (Corvallis) and University committees, and actively engage in promoting student success through the lens of equity, inclusion and diversity. The incumbent will act as a liaison with local K-12, community colleges, four-year institutions, and professional organizations. This position is directly responsible to advance the missions of the College of Education programs at OSU -Cascades. Key Responsibilities 80% – Teaching, Advising, Curriculum, and Program Related Activities: Professional Engagement, Teaching & Field based Supervision of Teacher Candidates: + Delivers course(s) in various delivery formats for OSU -Cascades, including ecampus, hybrid, and campus based. + Supervises teacher candidates in field placements in areas of expertise. Uses the Canvas learning management system. Manages content, forums, and assignments. + Communicates with students about content programming. + Provides timely feedback on assignments. + Collects feedback from students on course format, facilitation, and content. + Participates in advising and mentoring students. + Collaborates with co-instructors as needed. + Interacts with and supports cooperating teachers in the K-12 schools who work with student teachers. + Provides program support for students as they complete the ORTPA /EdTPA performance assessment. Supports regular evaluation and updates of program conceptual framework and assessments. Course Development: + Develops curriculum for courses designed to engage and challenge students. + Modifies existing curriculum for course/program and develops new courses as needed. + Ensures course Canvas site and syllabus meet College of Education and university requirements. + Works in collaboration with other faculty members to ensure consistent course content and facilitation within the program. + Attends trainings and develops technological expertise as expected in courses delivered through OSU . + Stays current in field through professional development to ensure that courses reflect latest professional knowledge and approaches. 10% – Scholarship and Outreach: + Partner with staff and the public schools in teacher candidate placements in six Central Oregon school districts. Stay professionally current in content of courses and certification and licensure regulations. + Engages in scholarship activities that contribute to effective program delivery and updates, and applied research at local or regional levels (e.g., program innovation, professional case or policy reports, invited presentations, advising government agencies or professional groups). + Disseminates applied research at the local and regional levels through professional conferences and other professional interactions. + Builds on local or regional knowledge and partnerships to deepen understandings that support program goals. What You Will Need Assistant Rank: + Requires Doctoral Degree (D.Ed, Ph.D or terminal degree), a degree earned separately from one earned as part of initial teacher licensure. + Current or previous K-12 teaching license. + Three to five years’ K-12 teaching experience in U.S. public schools. + Experience preparing, teaching, supervising, and/or supporting teacher candidates at the four-year college/university level. + A demonstrated understanding of contemporary perspectives on elementary grades teaching and learning. + Demonstrable commitment to enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion across various educational practices, such as curriculum design, teaching strategies, faculty and student engagement, or community collaboration + Demonstrated experience applying technology to instruction. + Experience working independently, collaboratively, and coordinating team tasks. + Demonstrated excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. + Demonstrated ability to perform and share research through conferences in the area of education or pedagogy. OSU will consider previous years of experience at other, similar institutions towards timelines for rank promotions. This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. What We Would Like You to Have + Five or more years’ experience teaching in elementary grades. + Demonstrated area of emphasis in a content area relevant to elementary education (language arts, mathematics, science, social studies). + Ability to teach content area methods courses such as language arts, mathematics, social studies, and/or ESOL . + Holds an endorsement in ESOL . + Demonstrated ability to produce and publish research in the area of education or pedagogy + Demonstrated ongoing participation in professional development indicating continuing interest in professional learning. + Experience with and understanding of the ORTPA /EdTPA teacher performance assessments. + Experience working in an elementary cohort program. + Demonstrated effectiveness in providing intellectual leadership in a teacher licensure program. + Demonstrated professional work experience in supervising teacher candidates in field placements. + Demonstrated record of or potential to contribute to the diversity and inclusion mission of OSU -Cascades through teaching, service, or advising.
