Department of Manufacturing and Industrial Engineering at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley invites applications for an open rank Professor of Practice position in Manufacturing and Industrial Engineering Department. The ideal candidate will possess significant professional experience in manufacturing or related fields and a passion for working in a collaborative environment. This non-tenure track position is designed to bring practical industry insights into the department and help grow faculty, students, and staff research opportunities.

The Manufacturing and Industrial Engineering ( MAIE ) department at UTRGV offers an ABET accredited bachelor’s degree of Manufacturing Engineering, a Master of Science degree in Manufacturing Engineering and a Master of Science degree in Engineering Management. The department supports the Ph.D. programs in Materials Science and Engineering, and the Ph.D. in Computer Science with Interdisciplinary Applications. The position is open for Assistant/Associate/Professor of Practice in Manufacturing and Industrial Engineering Department. Minimum Qualifications
A Ph.D. in Manufacturing Engineering or related fields from an accredited institution with a minimum of 5 years full-time university teaching experience. Some industrial experience is required. Also, the candidate is required to have strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Discipline Specific Required Qualifications
Candidate is expected to support the BS and MS programs in manufacturing and industrial engineering and should be able to teach undergraduate and graduate core courses. The candidate is expected to initiate externally funded research, have publications of research results in archival journals and/or conference proceedings. Candidates are also expected to lead new research proposals to attract external research funds from federal and state agencies such as NSF , DoD, DoE, NIH , NASA , or other private industries.
Preferred Qualifications
The highest consideration will be given to applicants who have expertise in renewable energy, advanced materials, or biomanufacturing. Previous research experience and industry-related experience will be preferred for the position. The candidate should demonstrate ability to play a collaborative role as team member in initiatives for partnerships with schools, community, colleges, government agencies and industry to create an eco-system that will bring economic prosperity to the Rio Grande Valley.

UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas ( TRS ), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program ( ORP ) instead of TRS , subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
