Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsibilities: The ideal candidate will bring deep knowledge of current issues in science education and science teacher preparation. Faculty in this department have the opportunity to inform curriculum, guide students’ intellectual growth, engage in innovative research, and foster active learning environments. The selected applicant will: maintain scholarly productivity in research, publications, and presentations; obtain external funds to support research activities; teach courses related to science education; prepare pre-service teachers for successful outcomes with teacher licensure requirements; serve on doctoral dissertation committees; provide service to the field and profession; and participate in program, department, college, and university governance. We encourage applicants with a desire for interdisciplinary collaboration in innovative science education or STEM education research.
Minimum Experience / Education:
UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned doctorate or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline.
Preferred Education Skills and Experience:
Required Qualifications:
+ An earned Ph.D. in science education, STEM education, curriculum and instruction, or closely related field from an accredited university.
+ At least three years of classroom teaching experience in science education.
+ A strong commitment to teach, advise, and mentor students at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
+ Evidence of efficacy in post-secondary teaching (face-to-face and online).
+ Deep knowledge of current issues in science education and science teacher preparation demonstrated through teaching, research, and service records.
+ Evidence of sustained research productivity through a consistent record of significant peer-reviewed publications focused on science education.
+ The ability to work collegially with others, including faculty, staff, and students.
+ A strong commitment to the mission of the university, college, and department.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Grant-writing experience.
+ Experience establishing community partnerships.
+ Demonstrated work with schools.
+ Experience in collaborative partnerships across STEM -related disciplines within or beyond a college of education context.
+ A current NC teaching license or eligibility to obtain one.
+ Experience working with adolescents in middle grades or secondary contexts.
