Position Number: 002261 Department: Col of Arts & Architecture (Col) Employment Type: Permanent - Full-time Months Per Year: 9 Essential Duties and Responsibilities: POSITION : The Department of Theatre at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte invites applicants for a tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor of Voice, Speech/Dialects and Acting beginning August 11, 2025. We are seeking a highly collaborative artist/scholar/practitioner with expertise teaching contemporary Voice, Speech, and Dialect pedagogies for the stage, including but not limited to Fitzmaurice, Knight-Thompson, Skinner, Linklater, Berry, Rodenburg, or other approaches, as well as expertise in contemporary acting pedagogies and practices (beginning and advanced). Other preferred qualifications include: AEA , SAG - AFTRA , VAST affiliation; experience directing for the stage; experience in voiceover and/or content creation to teach in a proposed Acting for New Media BA degree; experience in musical theatre (performance, directing, pedagogy); and certification and experience in stage combat or intimacy direction. Anticipated workload of 50% teaching, 30% research, and 20% in service to the department, college and university—to include the possibility of directing in the season, and engagement in ongoing creative and/or scholarly research commensurate with attaining tenure at a research institution are expected. To be considered at the Assistant rank, candidates must have a terminal degree in Acting/Performance and demonstrated teaching in Voice, Speech, Acting. To be considered at the Associate rank, candidates must have a terminal degree, 5-7 years of teaching, a track record of research and publications. DEPARTMENT / FACILITIES : The UNC Charlotte Department of Theatre is committed to both new and traditional stage work as well as collaborative practice and community-connected work. The department plans to offer a new concentration in Acting for New Media beginning in fall of 2026. The Department of Theatre is part of the College of Arts + Architecture which houses the departments of Theatre, Dance, Music, Art & Art History, and the School of Architecture. Robinson Hall, our state-of-the-art performance facility, includes a 300+ seat Proscenium Theatre, intimate Black Box Theatre Lab, and an informal performance lab located in the adjacent Rowe Arts Building. Faculty, student, and guest artist works are regularly performed as part of the season of fully supported main stage productions. The Department has a full-time faculty of 14 and typically hires numerous part-time faculty and guest artists per semester. We serve approximately 100 Theatre majors and 40 minors. The program offers a B.A. degree in Theatre with five Concentrations: Applied Theatre; Design/Tech; Directing, Dramaturgy and Dramatic Writing; Performance; and Theatre Education. Minimum Experience / Education: UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned doctorate or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline. Preferred Education Skills and Experience: REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS : + MFA Performance/Acting + University Teaching Experience (beyond teaching assistantship, preferred) + To be considered at the Assistant rank, candidates must have a terminal degree in Acting/Performance and demonstrated teaching in Voice, Speech, Acting. To be considered at the Associate rank, candidates must have a terminal degree, 5-7 years of teaching, a track record of research and publications. PRIORITY QUALIFICATIONS : + Demonstrated ability of effective teaching practices in Voice, Speech (for the stage) and Dialects + Demonstrated experience of effective teaching in Advanced Acting Techniques: Meisner, Viewpoints, Chekhov, Hagen, Camera Acting, Musical Theatre or other + Professional research/coaching trajectory in Voice, Speech, and Dialects + Demonstrated professional research/practice trajectory in Advanced Acting Techniques with certifications + Ability to teach a variety of contemporary acting pedagogies/practices at different levels within a wide range of performance/media + Professional Acting Credits (Theatre/Film/TV/New Media) PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS : + AEA , SAG - AFTRA , VASTA affiliation + Experience in directing for the stage + Experience in musical theatre (performance, directing, pedagogy) Experience in stage combat, intimacy direction, voiceover, content creation.
