General Summary

Under general supervision, manage Radiation Therapists and assist in the daily operation of the department. Supervise and perform a variety of technical procedures applying prescribed ionizing radiation therapy techniques in patient treatment.

Qualifications

Graduation from an AMA approved school of Radiation Therapy Technology or Radiologic Technology is required. Associate of Science degree in Radiation Therapy Technology is preferred.

Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and licensure by the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene as a Radiation Therapy Technologist is required.

CPR certification is required.

A minimum of four years progressively responsible experience performing Radiation Therapy. In addition, a minimum of two years lead/supervisory experience, supervising the work of Radiation Therapy Technologists and overseeing the operation of a unit, is required.

Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient population(s) served. Demonstratesknowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of thepatient's requirements relative to his or her population-specific and age specific needs. Provides the care needed as described in theunit/area/department policies and procedures.

Proficient knowledge of medical imaging and radiation therapy, the various types of radiation therapy equipment, such as, linearaccelerator and cobalt treatment units, general radiography equipment, simulators, block cutting equipment, radiation safety, androutine nursing procedures is required. Knowledge of dosimetry, mathematics/physics, anatomy and physiology. Knowledge of theoperation and use of personal computers.
