Assistant Chief Engineer

The Assistant Chief Engineer will assist with overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Engineering Department and with the maintenance of all broadcast technology and equipment at the station and transmitter sites.

Assists in managing all aspects of the Engineering DepartmentAssists in maintaining all broadcast technology and equipment for the station and transmitter sitesEnsures station compliance with rules and regulations applicable to FCC, local, state, and federal, lawsWorks closely with Chief Engineer to implement new technologies and technical infrastructure for the stationAssists with managing engineering and technology capital projects to the established budgetsManages and coordinates fiber connectivity, production setups, A/V routing and patching, audio equipment, graphics systems and editing systemsSupport and assist the News department in maintaining critical systems for live simultaneous newscastsImplement, install & maintain engineering systems and provide end-user support across all departmentsEvaluates, selects, installs, services and maintains station equipment and information technology systemsCommunicates with and coordinates equipment maintenance and training with vendors/contractorsThe possibility of unexpected and/or late-night calls for engineering-emergencies at the stationPerforms other duties as assigned

Requirements & Skills:

Associate degree in Electronics, Communications, or equivalent combination of education and work-related experience a plusMinimum six years' experience with a broadcasting environmentStrong communication, both verbal and writtenStrong interpersonal and organizational skillsUnderstanding of linear video distribution encoding, MPEG Transport streams, and multicast and unicast video transmissionProactive, dynamic, flexible, self-starter with a positive attitude who can independently learn new systems or equipmentDemonstrated expertise in analyzing and solving complex technical problems; in owning tasks and drives through to completionKnowledge of FCC license and reporting requirementsValid driver’s licenseAble to lift, carry, and move up to 50 lbs., climb ladders, work on rooftops and in confined spacesMust be able to work efficiently without direct supervisionThrives in an environment where teams rely on strong independent work and contributionsSolid understanding of IT networking, client/server relationships, subnetting, and VLANsAbility to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, and handle multiple tasks simultaneouslyAbility to function well under pressure, i.e. during live breaking news situationsAbility to work extended hours, as neededSBE certification a plus
