Employment Status: **Permanent Full time** Union: **NON-UNION** Open To: **Internal/External Applicant(s)** Closing Date: **09/02/2025** Duration (if temporary): **N/A** Job Title **Assistant City Solicitor** Wage $124,137 - $145,217 (2025) Reports To City Solicitor Department Chief Administrative Officer - Legal Location Lindsay, ON Hours 37.5 hours per week Other Combination of general office environment and offsite travel; Attends meetings, conferences and departmental emergency situations which may be outside of normal business hours **Essential Duties** **Specific to this role:** + Provide legal advice related to all facets of the City’s operations to City Council, the CAO and other senior City staff + Prepare by-laws; negotiate, draft, and review legal agreements and contracts for the Corporation + Represent the City in legal proceedings and real estate transactions + Full carriage of the Corporation’s routine and complex real property transactions from negotiation to registration + Advise and consult with outside professionals on general municipal issues and provide instructions to external legal counsel, as required + Act as a backup to City Solicitor, assist in the management of the Department as directed by the City Solicitor, and perform other duties as assigned **As a member of the professional team:** + Develop and administer procedures and recommend resources to achieve strategic objectives + Keep abreast of relevant changes to legislation and case law, to ensure that the Corporation has up-to-date information to act upon + Manage stakeholder interactions in the supply and receipt of information, analysis, and resolution of issues + Partner with internal process or program owners to share program objectives, analyze gaps, provide advice on actions to be incorporated in other’s processes + Manage customer service concerns, investigating, problem solving and responding as appropriate + Work collaboratively with others to deliver the outcomes as defined + Maintain documentation, databases and corporate records in accordance with policy and divisional practice; consider legislative municipal requirements such as the _Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA)_ + Provide data to allow reporting and decision making + Procure services and goods related to areas of responsibility + Contribute to the development of annual program needs **Qualifications** + Post-secondary degree in Law (either LLB or JD) + Member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario + Seven (7) years of progressive experience in municipal or government law, as well as experience drafting, negotiating, structuring, and advising on various types of contracts + Substantive and up-to-date knowledge of the _Municipal Act, 2001_ , _Planning Act_ , _Development Charges Act, 1997_ , and other relevant legislation and case law + Must demonstrate the ability to negotiate, facilitate, mediate, and present information to a varied audience + Must have strong analytical, problem-solving, research, and decision-making skills coupled with exceptional written and oral communication skills + Well-developed ability to interpret, anticipate and convey complex, technical and abstract information + Possess and demonstrate the knowledge, skills and personal attributes as described in the key performance competencies outlined below + Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of applications, audio/video conferencing, the internet and any other related software + Possess and maintain a valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s Licence or the ability to frequently attend work related activities at various sites within the municipality or at other sites within Ontario + Upon a conditional offer of employment, a Criminal Record Check will be required Back (https://tre.tbe.taleo.net/tre01/ats/careers/v2/searchResults?org=CITYOFKA&cws=37)
