About URI:

The University of Rhode Island enrolls approximately 17,000 students across its graduate and undergraduate programs and is the State’s flagship public research university, as well as the land grant and sea grant university, for the state of Rhode Island. The main campus is located in the historic village of Kingston, and the Bay Campus is located in Narragansett. Both campuses are near major beaches in a beautiful coastal community. The College of Nursing is searching for a faculty member for a clinical track position to begin in Fall 2025.

Basic Functions:

The College of Nursing (CON) is committed to scientific inquiry, knowledge development, and excellence in teaching. We seek a faculty member with a strong record of clinical expertise that supports our mission to prepare nurses to excel as outstanding and compassionate clinicians, scholars, and leaders who will enhance the health and healthcare of individuals, families, communities, and populations locally and globally. The successful candidate will have an appointment with the College of Nursing with primary clinical teaching responsibilities and possible classroom teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The candidate will be expected to oversee clinical placement faculty/preceptors associated with specialty course work, participate in student advising and service to the college, and contribute to scholarly activities.

Essential Duties:

Contribute to the University’s undergraduate and graduate teaching missions by teaching courses and mentoring students for the college.

Contribute to any of the four areas of scholarship— Discovery, Integration, Application, and Teaching.

Service as an advisor, mentor, and professional role model to students.

Service to the college, university, and professional organizations.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

Perform other duties as assigned.

Environmental Conditions:

The incumbent is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.

Qualification


Required:

1. Ph.D. or DNP degree at the time of appointment.

2. Demonstrated proficiency in written communication skills.

3. Demonstrated excellence in oral communication skills.

4. Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills.

5. Clinical expertise in nursing.

6. Eligible for RN and/or NP licensure in Rhode Island.

7. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/populations.

Preferred:

1. Clinical expertise in adult health- acute or chronic.

2. Demonstrated experience in clinical and classroom teaching.

3. Evidence of clinical scholarship.

The College of Nursing has over 800 undergraduate and 100 graduate students in MS, DNP, and Ph.D. programs. It includes the Kingston campus (undergraduate program) and the additional location of the Rhode Island Nursing Education Center (NEC) in Providence (graduate program and upper-division undergraduate coursework). Both locations provide opportunities for clinical skills and simulation learning, as well as interdisciplinary research and collaborations.
