The role you will contribute:
ACLO responsible to (1) keep informed of applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations which affect the operations of AdventHealth in all locations and operations and advise leaders and other appropriate personnel of the significance thereof, (2) collaborate, coordinate and communicate with other Legal Services team members and business leaders to resolve issues and meet objectives, (3) provide legal advice and counsel to all AdventHealth facilities for compliance with appropriate laws and regulations for day to day operations and/or strategic planning, (4) efficiently manage assigned outside counsel in litigation or support as needed, and (5) effectively manage cases and projects.
The value you will bring to the team:
· Manage company-wide matters in the area of expertise of assignment.
· Assist business leaders and departments in developing and maintaining legally compliant policies and practices.
· Participate in the overall development of the legal services department, internally and externally.
· Provide the executive management team of Adventist Health System with an understanding of legal parameters and motivating compliance with legal requirements.
· Maintain communication with other attorneys and/or senior leadership regarding legal developments and requirements for compliance.
· Adhere to Department File System Policy(ies), Directory Policy(ies), Service Log Policy(ies), and Best Practices Policy(ies).
· Draft memoranda and/or other documents responding to governmental, external or internal charges, audits and investigations, legal demands, and inquiries from clients.
· Provide business leaders with guidance on risk related decisions pertaining to business operational decisions.
· Manage outside counsel’s support of company initiatives and handling of litigation.
· Adhere to Rules of Professional Conduct of the Florida Bar and other state bars of which he/she is a member.
The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:
· Graduation from an accredited law school
· Member of the Florida Bar
· Eligible for Authorized “In House Counsel” status
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
· Knowledge of legal principles and position related areas of law.
· Legal research skills.
· Comprehensive knowledge of legal publications and the ability to use them efficiently including computer assisted research by using on-line services.
· Ability to reason logically and analytically.
· Ability to grasp, comprehend and analyze complex legal issues and complicated factual details.
· Ability to work effectively with others as well as work independently, without close supervision.
· Familiarity with Microsoft’s office suite, email applications, and other software resources.
· Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
· Ability to provide sound practical legal advice in response to client inquiries and proactively as needed.
· Ability to develop strong relationships with leadership and department colleagues for effective collaboration.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Five (5) years’ experience in related practice areas in law firm or in house capacity
· Experience in providing management focused advice regarding compliance and risk areas of operations
· Board certified or board eligible in related practice area
