Position TitleAssistant CoachWagnon-Parrott Athletic CenterPosition Summary / Career Interest:The Assistant Coach for Strength and Conditioning is responsible for maintaining a top quality comprehensive strength and conditioning program for the University of Kansas Athletics Department. The primary responsibility of this position is to provide strength and conditioning training programs for the Men's and Women's Track and Field/Cross Country teams. The position will adhere to the standards established by the Assistant AD – Sports Performance including utilizing recommended weight training, conditioning, flexibility, plyometrics and nutrition principles. The position also communicates with the Assistant AD – Sports Performance, coaching staff, and sports medicine staff regarding aspects of the student-athletes' nutrition, progress of training, and injuries.Responsibilities and Essential Job FunctionsDevelop, design, implement, and administer strength training programs unique to the assigned team sport and to each individual student/athlete, using discretion and independent judgment.
Develop and determine realistic goals, rules, expectations, and motivations for assigned teams and each individual student-athlete, using discretion and independent judgment;
Interact with team trainers and medical staff in designing, developing, and implementing rehabilitation programs for injured student-athletes
Prepare periodic evaluations and progress reports regarding the progress, conditioning, and training of the student-athletes.
Demonstrate good judgment in coaching responsibilities, including orienting student-athletes and staff to proper equipment use, appropriate conditioning techniques, and use of the most up to date training and conditioning concepts
Participate in clinics and lectures on strength and conditioning upon request
Monitor appearance, maintenance, and organization of equipment in training facilities
Assist in the education and enforcement of weight room rules
Assist in scheduling and organizing the daily use of the Anderson Strength Facility
Assist in the evaluation and recommendation in the procurement and maintenance of all equipment
Demonstrate good organizational skills
Assist in providing continuing education opportunities for strength staff
Maximize and assist in all recruiting opportunities with student-athletes on campus as requested
Exhibit respect and concern for student-athletes and support student-athletes’ academic effort and integrity
Assist, as requested, in the preparation, implementation, and monitoring of the budget
Attend all meetings, and perform other duties, as requested
Advise the Assistant AD
Sports Performance of issues that arise from NCAA, NSCA, and other accredited certification bodies as well as The Big 12 Conference related to Strength and Conditioning
Exhibit Division I knowledge, experience, and expertise in all actions.
Adhere to Health System, University, Athletics, big Twelve Conference and NCAA policies and procedures
Maintain knowledge of Health System, departmental activities, sports schedules and procedures
Foster cooperative relationships with fellow staff members within the department
Maintain a positive attitude toward performing job duties and in working with other staff members
Exhibit professional decorum at all times Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and ExperienceBachelors Degree from an accredited college or university 1 or more years year of Track & Field strength and conditioning coaching experience, including strength training, Olympic lifts, plyometrics, speed development, conditioning, flexibility and nutrition
Preferred Education and ExperienceMaster's Degree from an accredited college or university
Required Licensure and CertificationCertified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) - National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) within 180 Days Level 1 Weightlifting Coach - United States of America Weightlifting (USAW) within 180 Days
