EF Academy, Pasadena is looking for an Assistant Coach for Junior Varsity to support the Boys Basketball program. EF Academy competes in the competitive Prep League, which includes Flintridge Prep, Pasadena Poly, Chadwick, Providence, and Rio Hondo Prep. The Assistant Coach will emphasize the development of life skills, and provide an exemplary experience for students, in support of the mission and vision of EF Academy. The Assistant Coach reports to the Head Coach for day-to-day supervision; all coaches ultimately report to the Athletic Director. Minimum Requirements:Experience playing and/or coaching competitive athletics at or above the high school level.Acquire, possess, and maintain current coaching certifications and trainings as required by CIF and the State of California before employment can begin.3+ Years working with high school aged students preferred. Key Responsibilities: Collaborate with and support the Head Coach in executing their overall vision for the athletic team.Embrace the responsibility for the care of athletes and the team, in support of in loco parentis.Assess and instruct athletes, individually and in groups, regarding the basic and advanced nuances of the assigned sport, including sport-specific rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques.Implement and coach practice and game plans outlined by the Head Coach. Supervise and coach the assigned athletic team at all scheduled practices, games, and events.Collaborate with the Head Coach to establish and maintain expectations of behavior for athletes and the team that reflect positively upon EF Academy.Demonstrate and promote sportsmanship towards opponents, teammates, officials, and spectators.Serve as a mentor to athletes, supporting and encouraging their holistic growth.Drive the athletic team to all off-campus events, including practices and competitions.Ensure proper care, use, and safety of athletic equipment, supplies, and facilities.Support the Head Coach in monitoring athletic team compliance with all CIF-SS, Athletic Department, and EF Academy rules and regulations. Follow established procedures in the event of an athletic injury, including chaperoning an athlete to a hospital or medical facility as required. Frequently collaborate with the Health Center regarding health-related situations of athletes that may impact their availability. Attend meetings and award ceremonies as requested.Other duties as assigned. Working Hours:Athletic teams are permitted to practice up to 18 hours per week, and up to 4 hours per day (with a competition day counting as 3 hours). Working schedule is dependent upon finalizing team practice schedules, travel schedules (departure/return times), and competition schedules (which includes some nights on weekdays/weekends). Sundays are always off. Practice schedule may vary, but current plan is for the team to practice Monday through Friday from 6:30am to 8:00am in our on-campus gym. Coaches are required to be able to drive students to off-campus team events, such as games. The JV Boys Basketball team will start practicing on Monday, October 28, and the season will conclude on Tuesday, February 4. Due to EF Academy’s winter break, there are no practices/games from Thursday, December 12, through Wednesday, January 8. Anticipated Salary Range: $20-22 per hour
