Assistant Controller- Lyon College is seeking an Assistant Controller to support the Director of Finance in managing financial operations and ensuring accurate, timely reporting of financial activities. This role includes overseeing daily accounting functions, maintaining internal controls, assisting with audits, and ensuring compliance with regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of nonprofit financial management and a passion for supporting the mission of a liberal arts education.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting: Assist in preparing financial statements for stakeholders. General Ledger: Oversee maintenance and reconciliation for data accuracy. Budgeting & Forecasting: Collaborate on budget development, variance analysis, and forecasting. Internal Controls: Ensure compliance and identify improvement opportunities. Audit & Compliance: Assist with external audits and ensure regulatory compliance. Accounts Payable/Receivable: Support timely payments and collections. Payroll: Oversee payroll processing and compliance. Endowment & Investments: Assist with accounting and reporting for endowments. Grant Management: Monitor grant finances and compliance.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred Experience: Minimum of 5 years of accounting or finance experience. Experience in higher education, nonprofit, or government accounting preferred. Technical Skills: Proficient in financial software, accounting systems, and Microsoft Office (Excel). Knowledge: Strong GAAP, fund accounting, and higher education/nonprofit regulations knowledge. Soft Skills: Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication abilities. Attention to Detail: Accurate and timely in financial reporting. Ethics: High ethical standards and discretion with confidential data.
