Assistant Controller

The Assistant Controller is responsible for the timely, accurate accounting of financial and statistical transactions primarily related to balance sheet accounts. This position performs complex, professional, technical work related to the development, preparation and the maintenance of the company financial statements, accounting records and systems. Considerable judgment must be exercised to ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, rules, and State and Federal laws and regulations. Starting Salary Range: $103,181.00 - $127,431.00 This is an in-person position located in Fairbanks, Alaska. What you will do Reviews A/R and A/P activities and processes. Prepares the audited financial statements and notes. Prepares yearend tax provision, as directed by Controller. Prepares monthly and quarterly financial reports and other special ad hoc reports as needed. Prepares a variety of monthly account reconciliations and performs analytical review of data. Prepares working papers and analysis for the interim reviews and year-end audit; Reviews transactions related to developing policies and procedures to ensure goals are met. Research and error correction related to balance sheet, income statement and reporting. Develop reports using Excel, Jet Reports, MS Access and similar tools. Responds to inquiries and determines accounting treatment of transactions, as needed. Provides backup to Controller and supports, trains and mentors accounting staff as directed. Manages company purchase card program. Conditions of Employment Must pass a pre-employment drug test, random drug test thereafter in accordance with the published policy of Doyon Utilities. Must have a valid driver's license issued by the State of Alaska. Must be eligible to work on a military installation in Alaska. Eligibility to work on a military installation includes compliance with Department of Defense mandates with respect to employee background and health directives. Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance. Required 5+ years of Accounting experience. Preferred Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications. Thorough knowledge of and ability to apply basic accounting principles. Thorough knowledge of company policies and procedures and the ability to apply that knowledge on a daily basis. Considerable knowledge in all aspects of General Ledger, Accounts Receivable, and Cash Management. Self-motivated and able to work under minimal supervision and in a fast-paced environment. Possess excellent communication and organizational skills, attention to detail with excellent problem solving, and the desire to be a strong contributor to the department. Ability to investigate and satisfy inquiries made by others in a prompt, professional manner. Ability to maintain confidential, sensitive or proprietary information. Ability to make sound, independent decisions and to prepare accurate mathematical documentation. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, other employees, auditors, and the general public. Ability to comply with professional and State ethical standards. Ability to relieve and perform the daily functions of other Accounting personnel, as needed. Advanced verbal and written communication skills. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
