The assistant controller is responsible for overseeing the preparation of U.S. GAAP-based financial reporting, business compliance and taxes, accounts payable, and expense management. The assistant controller maintains internal controls that reduce risk and validate the accuracy and completeness of the company’s financial statements. This position requires strong technical accounting knowledge, a team-first mentality, commitment to growth and developing others, and strong work ethic.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: The assistant controller leads and mentors four employees in the accounting department and leads an entire team of thirteen.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Issue timely and accurate financial statements on a monthly basis. Research and provide opinion on proper U.S. GAAP accounting treatment for new processes. Lead coordination for year-end financial statement audit. Comply with federal, state, and local tax filings, including timely quarterly installment payments. Ensure that all accounts payable, taxes, and debt payments are paid in a timely manner. Ensure that general ledger account reconciliations are completed on a timely basis. Maintain strong system of internal controls and orderly accounting system. Maintain and documents system of accounting policies and procedures. Ensure the business remains in compliance with all licensing requirements for our work. Foster an environment of development and growth to accomplish goals and objectives. Monitor compliance with debt covenants. Maintain chart of accounts. Lead month-end close process and analyze financial information. Prepare and review general ledger journal entries and account reconciliations. Ensure they are completed accurately and according to schedule. Oversee area of responsibility in a manner consistent with the mission and values of the company. Lead technological improvement projects to modernize the accounting and finance functions.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
CPA required At least ten years of experience with financial statement preparation and analysis Bachelor’s degree in Accounting Experience with Big 4 accounting firm, preferred Experience in service-based/project-based businesses, preferredTECHNOLOGY, EQUIPMENT & TOOLS:
Experience with general ledger Proficient with standard office equipment (i.e., computer, phones, scanner, fax and copier). Proficient with Microsoft Office programs including advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:
Strong technical knowledge of US GAAP and tax code Effectively analyze and reconcile financial data with attention to detail.
