Job Summary: The Assistant Controller at The Oasis at Death Valley is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of the property's accounting operations, including supervising accounting staff, controlling month-end closing processes, and preparing financial reports. This role requires strong leadership skills to train and develop team members, as well as technical expertise to ensure accurate and timely completion of various financial tasks, such as reconciliations, tax reporting, and payroll processing. Additionally, the Assistant Controller plays a crucial role in streamlining accounting processes, providing support to other departments, and maintaining compliance with company policies and procedures while demonstrating professional and courteous behavior in all interactions. Responsibilities Must be able to demonstrate professional and courteous behavior with all guests and employees. Selects accounting personnel that directly or indirectly report to this position, with the ability to recommend hiring, complete performance appraisals and recommend salary and other actions related to personnel issues in coordination with the controller. Manages, supervises and trains accounting employees assigned to this position (Accounting Manager and payroll). Ensures all accounting operations/functions are being completed timely and accurately. Controls and monitors the month end closing process for The Oasis at Death Valley. Ensures that all required journal entries and allocations are entered, edited, released and posted timely throughout the closing process. Prepares the Weekly Report of Operations for The Oasis at Death Valley for property management and the corporate office. Prepares a detailed worksheet used for the last week of the month to help ensure EBITDA forecast is within a 10% variance. Completes monthly reconciliations for all assigned balance sheet accounts timely and accurately. Reviews all reconciliations assigned to other team members and ensures that they are completed timely and accurately. Completes The Oasis monthly sales/use tax reports and submits to corporate timely and accurately. Approves trade and retail accounts payable invoices for accurate coding, use tax, and value. Participates in property inventories as needed at The Oasis at Death Valley. Provides support and guidance to operational and support staff as needed. Responsible for continual streamlining of accounting processes. Develops and maintains Excel spreadsheets to facilitate the streamlining of accounting and audit procedures with the ability to track data more efficiently. Develops and presents to the controller any matters requiring his/her approval/decision. Aids and provides training to company departments/personnel regarding Kronos/XEP/CS processes and procedures. Monitors the accounts payable process for The Oasis at Death Valley. Controls and monitors the Payroll process for The Oasis at Death Valley. Ensures checklists/deadlines are met; assist and/or aid when needed. Run and distribute monthly financial reports and annual budget reports. Ensure the desk policy and procedure manuals are created/revised/updated as needed for all positions. Ensures the monthly 8027 reporting for The Oasis at Death Valley is completed timely and accurately. Ensures the completion of the monthly payroll benefit audit. Provide monthly safety training to accounting employees. Maintain DMV registration and licensing needs for all The Oasis at Death Valley. Distribute annual vehicle insurance cards to the appropriate personnel for all company vehicles. Maintains contracts/leases/licensing files for The Oasis at Death Valley. Creates and maintains spreadsheet listing all showing termination date and person responsible for canceling or extension of agreement. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business equivalent required. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, analytical skills and Excel skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks in an efficient manner. Ability to handle and strictly maintain confidential information. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and have a valid driver’s license. Must have the ability to lift mailbags and boxes up to 30 pounds. Preferred Qualifications: Minimum of 5 years’ experience, preferably in hospitality accounting management.
