Assistant Corporate Counsel

About the role:

\n

As an Assistant Corporate Counsel at TQL, you will be responsible for proactively mitigating the company’s legal risk, analyzing, managing, addressing and seeing through to completion legal matters particularly relating to employment, transportation, compliance and contractual issues, including litigation.

What you'll be doing:

\n\nProvide hands-on counsel to all management staff on general and specialized legal matters including litigation, transportation law, employment law, commercial contracts, compliance and corporate governance\nProvide analysis and guidance on matters relating to pursuing and/or defending litigation, including discussing strategies with internal and external counsel\nOversee and coordinate litigation matters, including discovery efforts between TQL and external counsel\nWork with third party administrators in tracking, reporting and managing employment and cargo claims and claims-related litigation from start to finish\nReview, analyze and advise business segment on risks relating to insurance coverages and applicability to claims\nOffer legal advice and support regarding various employment, compliance, collections and claims issues\nCollaborate with the various departments to review issues, evaluate legitimacy and provide legal advice as to how to proceed\nDevelop innovative solutions that mitigate legal risk in a manner that supports TQL objectives and priorities\nDistill complex legal principles to understandable form, apply and implement in business setting\nDevelop, contribute to, audit, identify risk and maintain corporate policies and procedures ensuring compliance with applicable statutes and regulations\nPerform other legal duties based upon new opportunities that arise within TQL

What you’ll need:

\n\nJuris Doctorate from accredited law school\nAdmission to state bar association(s)\nAt least 2+ years of legal experience in a major law firm or corporate law environment\nKnowledge and experience in reviewing, analyzing, participating in, and managing various types of litigation\nExcellent business acumen and judgment\nAbility to understand business needs and place legal risk in proper business context\nStrong research, communication and project management skills\nProven ability to cultivate and maintain positive working relationships with leadership and both internal and external counsel \nAdmirable influencing and persuasive skills\nAptitude to effectively deal with difficult, sometimes contemporaneous situations.\nProactive self-starter with the ability to work independently\nProfessional team player comfortable to work with all levels of business\nFlexible, go-getter attitude willing to tackle additional projects as opportunities arise

What we prefer but do not require:

\n\nKnowledge of the transportation industry\nKnowledge of compliance and risk management issues in corporate environment
