The Assistant Dean, Liberal Studies exists to manage the administrative operations for academic programs within the Liberal Studies degree program portfolio. This position is critical to the day-to-day operations and the short and long-term strategic vision of all academic programs. The incumbent will provide leadership and support in the areas of faculty services, management, student experience, and programmatic administrative execution. This position will serve as a representative to various internal stakeholders across SCS and the University, as well as, prospective students and external partners on a local and national level. Interacting with a variety of internal and external stakeholders on a consistent basis, additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Provide direct oversight of the Program Director and/or Program Manager within the Liberal Studies portfolio.

Direct staff members to perform actions for the student community which could include but is not limited to the monitoring of the student pipeline, enrollment management, course registrations, general communications, and events management.

Contribute and provide strategic guidance in troubleshooting academic and administrative issues for the program(s) in conjunction with the Faculty Directors in Liberal Studies.

Participate in admissions process as needed, supporting all marketing initiatives for the Liberal Studies portfolio.

Support the course scheduling process for all programs within Liberal Studies, supporting and overseeing all enrollment conversion and retention initiatives.

Coordinate with third party partner Coursera on day to day of BLS program.

Oversee academic advising for the Bachelor of Liberal Studies, Doctor of Liberal Studies and Master of Arts in Liberal Studies students, as well as administration of thesis process.

Work directly with MALS and DLS students on the submission process for their theses to ensure the end product meets University standards.

Provide strategic support for program development projects which could include: working with Coursera on initiatives to improve the BLS co-curricular experience, coordinating with Admissions on enrollment tactics to improve numbers in MALS.

Manage the programmatic budgets and collaborate with the Faculty Director, events team, and CFO, SCS in making financial decisions for the programs.

With assistance from program staff, perform the monthly and annual budgets to actuals reporting, paying particular attention to the reconciliations of scholarships associated with gifts and grants, monitor program’s events budgets, and Pro Card usage.

Requirements and Qualifications

Master’s degree

3 years of experience required (or equivalent combination of education and work experience)

Computer proficiency in Microsoft Suite

Experience in developing, executing or participating in online education would be valuable

Professional and/or academic experience in business or management industries is desired

The position requires exceptional organizational and communication abilities

A willingness to take initiative and lead others, with flexibility and the ability to balance competing objectives

Must have solid interpersonal skills and the ability to network with various markets

All SCS staff are required to support Commencement week events

Five or more years of work experience in a professional or academic setting preferred

Pay Range:

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:

$54,616.00 - $100,493.33

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
