Assistant Dean for Assessment and Accreditation

Position Summary:
The Assistant Dean for Assessment and Accreditation coordinates and directs all assessment and accreditation activities for the teacher education unit at SUNY Cortland. This includes leading the collection, analysis, and reporting of data related to candidate outcomes and providing support and direction to departments and programs undertaking self-studies and preparing for major accreditation reviews. The assistant dean maintains the teacher education unit’s assessment system and oversees the preparation of annual updates and progress reports required by the New York State Education Department, the federal government, national accrediting bodies, and other external agencies.
The position of assistant dean requires a high degree of communication and collaboration with teacher education program coordinators and department chairs as well as with professional staff in Institutional Research and Analysis, Information Resources, and Institutional Effectiveness. The assistant dean also serves as an active member of the Teacher Education Council and works closely with the dean and associate dean in the School of Education to ensure that all teacher education programs are meeting state and national standards of quality. The position is a 12-month obligation.

Major Responsibilities:
Assessment Leadership, Management and Oversight (40%)
+ Oversee, manage, maintain and update as necessary the university’s teacher education assessment system to ensure compliance with national and state regulations
+ Provide oversight of the Watermark data management system with support from a data manager and staff in Information Resources
+ Promote a data-informed culture that can respond to the evolving requirements and needs related to the assessment of teacher education outcomes
Data Collection and Analysis (30%)
+ Retrieve and analyze information from an array of data management systems
+ Develop statistical analyses to analyze and summarize assessment results, and establish fairness, reliability, and validity of assessments
+ Spearhead the collection and use of data to allow program faculty to analyze and document the progress and performance of their candidates
Internal and External Reporting (30%)
+ Prepare and maintain data reports and other documentation required by campus offices, accrediting bodies and government agencies
+ Lead the development and writing of self-studies and other institutional reports to maintain national accreditation and compliance with federal and state regulations
+ Develop periodic data reports to inform the continuous improvement and revision of teacher education policies, processes, and curricula
+ Maintain and manage required websites that share outcome and performance data reports with teacher education stakeholders both on and off campus
Required Qualifications:
+ Master’s degree in education, measurement and evaluation, educational psychology, or related field
+ Familiarity with external accreditation processes
+ Experience in the use of technology including data and learning management systems
+ Experience writing reports or papers for external audiences
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Doctorate in education, measurement and evaluation, educational psychology or related field
+ Experience directing or coordinating accreditation of education or other professional programs
+ Experience in P-12 education, administration and/or assessment
+ Experience with quantitative analysis and statistics
+ Experience with current online data management systems (e.g., Watermark)
+ Experience with data analysis strategies using software such as SPSS , SAS and Excel Pivot Tables
+ Experience in higher education, especially with regard to campus accreditation visits, program review and campus governance processes
+ Experience working with diverse stakeholders
