Location: Valhalla, NY Category: Administrative Positions Posted On: Thu Sep 5 2024 Job Description: The Assistant Dean of Assessment ensures that the SUNY Westchester Community College has in place a system of academic assessment aligning with the State University of New York System (SUNY) assessment policies and procedures; the assessment standards set forth the by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education; and the College's Strategic Plan. Responsibilities involve maintaining systems of assessment and creating a culture of assessment at SUNY Westchester Community College. The Assistant Dean collaborates with faculty on course, program and institutional levels of assessment. They serve on committees, provide professional development and training, and attend professional conferences addressing issues relating to academic assessment at the College. Major responsibilities include: Leading the management and continual improvement of college-wide structures and processes supporting the systematic assessment of learning outcomes through course, program and institutional assessment by: + Ensuring that systems of assessment are established, documented, and fully operational. + Creating and maintaining resources including electronic handbooks and templates. + Implementing and maintaining technology platform(s) for facilitating assessment and collecting and analyzing results. + Creating a college-wide repository of assessment activities and documentation for the WCC community and to support accreditation efforts. + Promoting a culture of assessment through outreach, training and professional development. + Evaluating the assessment policies and procedures to ensure compliance with standards set forth by SUNY and MSCHE. + Serving on the Faculty Senate Assessment Committee and regularly attending Faculty Senate meetings. Directing the assessment of student learning by: + Working with faculty, staff and administration to develop, implement, and document the assessment of student learning at the course, program, and institutional levels in the Division of Academic Affairs. + Communicating with faculty and staff regarding the scope of responsibilities and timelines. + Monitoring internal and external reporting schedules related to assessment. + Ensuring program mission, goals and learning outcomes are measurable and span all levels of cognitive learning. + Creating and revising curriculum maps that illustrate alignment of learning outcomes at the course and program levels. + Employing assessment methods and tools (e.g., rubrics) appropriate to the learning outcomes and discipline. + Working with faculty to identify methods for collecting and analyzing learning outcome data. + Establishing and maintaining assessment cycles leading into Academic Program Review. + Overseeing faculty professional development and providing resources related to professional development in student learning outcomes assessment. + Establishing and maintaining assessment cycles for general education SLOs. + Ensuring that results are properly reviewed by faculty and administration, leading to planning and recommendations. + Communicating the results of assessment and other relevant information to the broader academic community. + Monitoring report writing and submission. Coordinating and supporting the program review process by: + Managing and disseminating standard program review templates. + Assisting with gathering and organizing data with relevant offices and tools. + Providing technical assistance to Curriculum Chairs. Other duties as assigned, such as serving on the Academic Leadership Council, and contributing to the overall success of the College by participating in projects and committees as needed. Job Requirements: REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate must have a Bachelor's Degree and either: (a) A Master's Degree and five years of experience in educational or business administration, or the planning and development of education, employment training or human development programs, three years of which must have been in an administrative or supervisory position; OR (b) Seven years of experience as stated in (a), including the administrative or supervisory experience. All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and evidence of equity-minded practice in all college policies, practices, and personnel. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: It is preferred that the candidate have extensive experience in assessment and accreditation within higher education. The position spends significant time working directly with faculty, therefore classroom teaching experience at the college level and faculty leadership experience are both preferred capacities. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word and PowerPoint) with advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, as well as experience in data analysis tools and relational databases (e.g. assessment management software or Tableau) are also preferred qualifications. Additional Information: SALARY & BENEFITS: The starting salary is $102,151. Additional compensation with seniority steps maximize at a salary of $157,702. WORK SCHEDULE: The work schedule is Monday through Friday from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm; some flexibility may be required. POSITION EFFECTIVE: The position will remain open until filled.
