This position assists the General Counsel and Deputy General Counsel in providing leadership and legal expertise to support the Department’s compliance with state and federal laws. **Staff Attorney Supervisor responsibilities related to employment matters** + Supervise and manage a team of attorney(s) including the hiring and evaluation of the performance of assigned staff. + Assist the General Counsel and Deputy General Counsel in coordinating and managing legal work throughout the Department. + Conduct legal research, writing and analysis, and provide legal advice to the Department on a variety of complex legal issues, including but not limited to, employment law, labor law, and affirmative action/equal opportunity matters. + Manage the Department’s employment investigations. + Manage the Department’s external charges of discrimination matters. + Coordinate and consult with the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office regarding the Department’s legal disputes and litigation involving employment related matters. + Manage the development of and/or provide legal training on a variety of topics to Department staff. **Staff Attorney Supervisor responsibilities related to agency-wide work** + Supervise and manage a team of attorneys including the hiring and evaluation of the performance of assigned staff. + Assist the Deputy General Counsel in coordinating and managing legal work throughout the Department. + Conduct legal research, writing and analysis, and provide legal advice to the Department on a variety of complex legal issues. + Coordinate and consult with the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office regarding the Department’s legal disputes and litigation. + Manage the development of and/or provide legal training on a variety of topics to Department staff. + Assume the duties of the Deputy General Counsel in case of absence. **Writing Sample** + Individuals who are selected for interview may be requested to submit a writing sample. Judicial clerkship experience will count towards this criteria. Licensed to practice law in Minnesota and current with continuing legal education requirements. Experience providing legal advice to senior leadership. Performed legal research, writing, and analysis within the last four (4) years from the posting of this position.
