Assistant Director, Accessibility & Student Well-being
Job Summary: The Assistant Director for Accessibility and Student Well-being supports the overall development and execution of accessibility services and student well-being in Roanoke. They will facilitate Roanoke-based accessibility services for students with disabilities and collaborate with faculty and staff to determine reasonable accommodation strategies for students as needed in the classroom, testing, and clinical settings. This includes managing a caseload of students with disabilities, reviewing disability documentation, and conducting student interviews to determine eligibility for services. They will coordinate and implement a wide array of well-being initiatives, programs and services that promote student well-being. In addition, this position will develop and provide programs and services that contribute to student success and opportunity. This role includes delivering direct services and serving as a liaison to various campus departments to coordinate wellness activities and resources. Required Qualifications: + Knowledge related to the needs of individuals living with disabilities. Applicant should have prior experience working with individuals living with disabilities and/or working knowledge of adaptive technologies/equipment, accessibility software, and best practice methods of materials conversion. + Experience with event coordination and execution, marketing, and assessment. Proven ability to work independently and as part of an effective team, make decisions, maintain confidentiality and meet deadlines. + Considerable knowledge of professional ethics and the ability to apply to current work. – Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues. Ability to treat all people equitably and with sensitivity and awareness to cultural differences. + Must be flexible and possess the ability to successfully handle multiple tasks/projects simultaneously and work well under pressure, independently, and in a team-oriented environment. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Self-motivated with demonstrated understanding of the developmental issues of college students. + Requires demonstrated skills in organization and efficiency and the ability to organize and schedule various projects and activities. + Demonstrated proficiency in computer software including Microsoft Suite. + Excellent communication skills, both written, verbal and non-verbal. Preferred Qualifications: + Experience working with students with disabilities in a higher educational setting. + Previous knowledge and experience using accessible/adaptive technology (in educational settings). + An understanding of the laws governing accessibility services in higher education + Experience in the installation and implementation of accessible/adaptive technology hardware and software applications. + Experience with Accessibility Management Software ( AIM , Accommodate etc.). + Experience working with students with ASD or other populations with ADA diagnosed disabilities. + Experience working in Higher Education with students with diagnosed disabilities. + Ability to interpret and evaluate medical and psychological evaluations.
