**Custom Job Purpose:**
This position exists to assist the Director of Behavior and Mental Health Support in supervising districtwide, comprehensive services in the areas of behavioral and mental health supports for all students, including students with disabilities.
**Essential Functions of this Job**
Performs all administrative duties for the department personnel including staff development and evaluation of job performance.
Works with Professional Development in the planning and execution of staff development activities for school principals, assistant principals and administrative assistants.
Plans and schedules departmental activities and staff programs.
Remains current on the latest pedagogical studies relating to behavioral health including behavior analysis principles
Conducts research and makes recommendations to the Senior Director of Specialized Student Services for the improving of school programs and student support procedures.
Works with administrators and school personnel in solving district-wide problems related to the student behavioral health needs.
Coordinates action to resolve problems with students, parents, and other agency personnel in regards to behavioral health needs.
Makes referrals to community agencies in accordance with policies.
Provides follow-up information to school personnel and other staff regarding behavioral health.
Responds to inquiries and provides information regarding behavioral health issues, policies, and procedures.
Acts as a representative of the school district on behavioral health supports with local, state, and federal agencies.
**Non-Essential Functions of this Job**
Performs other duties as assigned.
**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:**
Extensive knowledge of multi-tiered systems of support and positive behavior interventions and support. Understanding of functions and patterns of student behavior, including mental health issues as determined relevant to student needs. Ability to coordinate services between school, district, and community-based personnel for the benefit of students and families. Skilled in the area of student assessment relating to disability categories under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and Florida state board rules. Understanding of legislation associated with Section 504, LGBTQ youth, and Florida laws for behavioral and mental health services including provision of services through SEDNET.
**Education, Experience and/or Certification/License Requirements**
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's Degree is required. Master's Degree in Educational Leadership and/or a student services related field is preferred. Certification in Educational Leadership is preferred. Demonstrated experience with behavioral support and mental health services is required.
**Work Context:**
Requires sitting and some standing, walking and moving about to coordinate work. Requires coordinating or leading others in accomplishing work activities. Requires face-to-face discussions and contact with individuals and/or teams. Requires the use of alternative communication systems, such as electronic mail, telephones and computers. Requires coordination of work tasks to establish priorities, set goals and meet deadlines. Requires making decisions that _affect_ other people, the financial resources, and/or the image and reputation of the District. Opportunity to make decisions without supervision. Responsible for work outcomes and results. Requires work with both internal and external contacts, and with the public.
**Physical Environment:**
Requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions. Requires sitting for the majority of the day, and the ability to lift, carry, move and/or position objects infrequently weighing up to 20 pounds. Requires travel to schools and work sites within the District.
