Faculty Rank or Job Title Assistant Director, Campus Rec - Fitness/Aquatics Job Category: Administrative (exempt/non-exempt) Department Student Union EEO number: 25P066 Position FTE 100% Minimum Annual or Hourly Rate $50,000 Salary Band: S04 Job Summary/Basic Function: The Assistant Director for Fitness and Aquatics is responsible for the organization and administration of the fitness and wellness programs within Campus Recreation. The position requires creativity and innovation to develop programs that are responsive to the needs of a diverse student population, including individuals with disabilities, programs that are campus-wide in scope and the ability to integrate related resources. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Fitness Management, Sports Management, Health and Behavioral Science, or a related field and 3 years of experience in the fitness/wellness industry or other related field Experience planning and leading a variety of fitness activities Knowledge of risk management issues in fitness Strong interpersonal and decision-making skills Ability to work independently and with a team Fitness Certification (i.e. ACSM, ACE, or AFAA) Preferred Qualifications Master’s Degree in Exercise Science, Fitness Management, or a health/fitness related field. Personal training certificate from NSCA, NASM, ISSA, ACE, or nationally accredited organization Certification in first aid and CPR Fitness screening and assessment experience Experience in campus recreation and/or university environment LGI Certification Essential Functions and percent of time: Fitness Program 25% Develop, manage, implement, promote, and evaluate a comprehensive fitness program to include group exercise classes, personal fitness training, assessment, and special events. Develop and implement a staffing plan. Create and maintain program schedules. Develop and implement policies, systems, and training programs for proper use of equipment. Aquatic Center 25% Develop manage, implement, promote, and evaluate aquatics programming. Perform regular safety and cleaning inspections of pool and equipment to reduce hazards and to provide maximum safety and comfort to pool patrons and ensure that lifeguard stations are appropriately staffed. Assist in planning and executing special pool events for students and employees. Essential Functions and percent of time (cont'd): Supervision 20% Recruit, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate programming staff including student instructors (15), and adjunct instructors (5), practicum students, interns, and graduate assistants. Supervise and support adapted recreation student manager in the development and implementation of adapted recreation programs. Program Evaluation and Planning 15% Through observations and reports on customer-use trends, develop effective long-range expansion and program plans to coincide with improved service levels based on defined marketing strategies. Develop and evaluate short and long-term planning strategies and policies related to facility and program development. Develop marketing, program guidelines, policies and procedures related to all fitness/aquatics programming. Establishes criteria for creating new programs, in keeping with student, faculty, and staff interests and current trends. Maintains a wide variety of program choices to meet the needs of a diverse University community. Work closely with student organizations and faculty to enhance campus educational and leadership opportunities and collaborate on campus-wide events. Administrative 10%Prepare and monitor annual university budget for the fitness program.
