JOB SUMMARY:
The Assistant Director of Field Research oversees planning, execution and management of all primary research conducted in-park at Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood to deliver accurate, credible data while ensuring operational and financial efficiency. The role focuses on developing, implementing, and evaluating strategic plans that respond to evolving organizational needs, including efforts to create a fully integrated bicoastal field research program comprised of both survey and qualitative research. The Assistant Director plays a pivotal role in developing strong cross-functional partnerships, fostering an innovative, collaborative, positive team culture, and providing opportunities for growth and development.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operational and Financial Management, Compliance, and Administration
+ Work with partner teams to schedule labor, assess project feasibility, and prioritize project timelines to balance competing needs and changing environments
+ Develop accurate, fiscally responsible working budgets and labor models that anticipate and account for shifting project, equipment, and organizational needs
+ Partner with relevant stakeholders to identify opportunities to streamline data collection, reporting, and transfer methods.
+ Oversee and continually evaluate hiring, scheduling, and training programs for efficiency and effectiveness.
+ Conduct systematic reviews of performance measurements against metric-based targets to identify and resolve potential issues, optimize efficiencies, and maintain data quality
+ Responsible to ensure compliance with all HR, EHS, and other organizational policies and protocols are followed.
+ Collaborate with human resources to resolve conflicts and leverage partner expertise when appropriate; oversee department-wide compliance with all organizational policies and safety standards
Team Leadership, Supervision, and Development
+ Directly supervise senior management bicoastally, focusing on coaching, training, and development opportunities to maximize
Leadership and research skills and strengthen bicoastal collaboration
+ Cultivate a growth mindset culture in which skills and abilities can be acquired through learning and hard work, failures are viewed as opportunities to learn, and where continual feedback promotes individual and team improvement
+ Leverage existing programs and learnings, unique strengths, and shared opportunities to optimize training
+ Communicate with TMs to elicit input and feedback and share, as appropriate, the impacts of their data collection efforts
+ Identify and nurture high-potential team members
Stakeholder Engagement
+ Collaborate with senior leadership to align field research operations with organizational goals
+ Develop and maintain open lines of communication with internal and organizational stakeholders to strengthen partnerships, successfully deliver on objectives, and identify opportunities
Strategic Planning and Vision
+ Develop and implement mid-range and long-term strategies for quantitative and qualitative field research strategies bicoastally
+ Explore and evaluate new ways to harness equipment, technology and other innovations to collect data efficiently, reliably, and to high data quality standards
+ Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.
+ Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in a social science or business-related field
EXPERIENCE:
+ 9+ years of supervisory or management experience in market or social science research required
+ Theme park management experience preferred;
+ or equivalent combination of education and experience.

+ This position is an Orlando-based, in-office role. The role requires trips to Universal Studios Hollywood approximately 4-6 times per year
+ Experience in field data collection protocols and methods, especially as they relate to the collection of survey data.
+ Strong verbal and written communication skills, including conflict resolution.
+ Ability to balance competing needs, prioritize, and problem-solve.
+ Demonstrated ability handling budgets, labor models, and HR-related issues.
+ Experience collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders to address challenges.
+ Ability to multi-task and change direction quickly.
+ Strong attention to detail and high level of conscientiousness.
