Assistant DirectorReq #:0000154058 Category:Laboratory and Medical Technologist Status:Full-Time Shift:Day Facility:RWJBarnabas Health Corporate Services Department:Lab JCMC Location: Jersey City Medical Center, 355 Grand Street, Jersey City, NJ 07302 Job Overview:As the Assistant Laboratory Director, you will provide oversight of JCMC laboratories inpatient and outpatient at JCMC, Bayonne, Colony Plaza and other JCMC/RWJBH affiliated clinics or facilities. With oversight from the Laboratory Administrative Director and Medical Director, you will take ownership of directing the Laboratory operations and support the entire JCMC laboratory and pathology service, Qualifications: Required: + Bachelor s Degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science or similar degree. + Must meet current NJ Sanitary Code Chapter 44, Chapter IV, 8:44-2.4 General Laboratory Supervisor qualifications. + 5 years progressive work experience in General Laboratory Services (Generalist). + Effective written and oral communication skills, computer skills and organizational skills required. + Must have operational knowledge and experience in multiple laboratory disciples. + Current experience in a clinical laboratory setting with management responsibilities. + Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization. Preferred Criteria: + Master's Degree preferred. + Experience managing a clinical laboratory team in a large hospital organization or trauma center. + American Society for Clinical Pathology Certification (ASCP) or equivalent certification. Essential Functions: + As the Assistant Laboratory Director, you will provide oversight of JCMC laboratories (inpatient and outpatient) at JCMC, Bayonne, Colony Plaza and other JCMC/RWJBH affiliated clinics or facilities. With oversight from the Laboratory Administrative Director and Medical Director, you will take ownership of directing the Laboratory operations and support the entire JCMC laboratory and pathology service. + Supervision: Directly supervises management and supervisory staff including but not limited to expected outcomes and goals, assigning responsibilities, establishing work hours and staffing schedules, monitoring staffing and payroll with consultation from Laboratory Director. + Participates in standardization of laboratory and pathology operations at JCMC sites and RWJBH laboratory service line. + Quality Systems and Regulatory Compliance: Collaborates with Administrative Director and medical directors within the department to implement quality system practices within each laboratory. Works with supervisory staff to ensure regulatory compliance is monitored and maintained in all laboratory areas. + Planning and Budgeting: Participates with Administrative Director in cost control and fiscal planning to ensure that the most effective method of delivering quality services is implemented. Maintains awareness of the cost impact of decisions and actions in the laboratory areas. Monitors established practices and their impact on lab expenditures, identifies areas of excessive cost. Works with Administrative Director and Senior leadership to develop strategic financial plans as it relates to laboratory growth. Assists Laboratory Administrative Director in providing senior leadership with cost information necessary for preparation of budgets. + Operations Management: Ensures that all laboratory operating procedures and policies are developed, maintained, and enforced. This includes quality control standards and practices such as daily QC and validation procedures. Ensure that testing systems developed and used for each of the tests performed in the laboratory provide quality laboratory services for all aspects of test performance, which includes the pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic phases of testing. Ensure that the test methodologies selected have the capability of providing the quality of results required for patient care; meet accuracy standards; and laboratory personnel are using test methods for accurate and reliable results. Ensure the establishment and maintenance of acceptable levels of analytical performance for each test system. Oversees validation plans for the JCMC laboratories with guidance for Laboratory Administrative Director. Assist in conducting workflow and volume assessments. Works with supervisors to implement new workflows required to ensure efficient and high-quality services. Oversees material management as it relates to laboratory operations. + Assumes responsibility for recognizing results or problems that require referral to Medical Director or Administrative Director. Performs additional tasks as requested by Medical Director or designee.
