Spatial Biology Core (SBC) is seeking an Assistant Director. Spatial Biology is a new rapidly growing field that utilizes techniques from advanced microscopy, spatial transcriptomics, in situ sequencing, multiplex immunofluorescence, imaging mass spectrometry. Our laboratory is composed of instruments such as nCounter, CosMx (Nanostring/Bruker), CytAssist – Visium V2 and HD (10x Genomics), IsoPlexis (Bruker), and ZellScanner - ChipCytometry (Canopy-Bruker). We are looking for an Assistant Director who will provide subject matter expertise in advanced microscopy, including but not limited to confocal, super resolution and light-sheet microscopy; data processing and analysis; sample preparation using multiplexing and in situ hybridization techniques (and other). The Assistant Director will be responsible for utilizing microscopy techniques in spatial biology field. Assistant Director will provide support for biomedical and cancer research .
Job duties include:
Assist faculty researchers and act independently in the design of research projects, the development of methods and procedures, the preparation of research proposals, and the writing of research findings
Oversee day-to-day operations of projects.
Help develop and implement new protocols and procedures.
Develop, design, and conduct one or more small or moderately complex research projects or experiments in line with plan.
Coordinate data collection and screening and analysis spatial biology data (with emphasis on microscopy based data)
Conduct analyses of data and interpret and implement research methodology based on outcomes of analyses.
Co-author publications and may co-present results with the Principal Investigator at meetings or conferences.
Sample preparation for Spatial Transcriptome and Proteome analysis.
Immunofluorescence and multiplex analysis in a tissue section
In situ hybridization (ISH) and imaging.
Sample preparation for multiplex analysis in bulk: RNA and protein.
Conduct experiments to support research projects.
RNA extraction.
Single-cell isolation.
Cell culture.
Prepare, order, and maintain laboratory reagents and equipment.
To maintain lab records and compliance with safety and biohazard, act as laboratory liaison to vendors.
In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
Minimum Requirements
Education: Master's degree. Bachelor's degree accepted with additional experience.
Experience: Master's degree: Four years of experience in lab technical and supervisory role. Bachelor's Degree: Six years of experience in lab technical and/or supervisory role.
Licensure: Medical Laboratory Technician certification preferred. Certain areas may require certification to be obtained through the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).
Physical Demands
This position can spend extensive periods of time standing and squatting while conducting experiments or caring for animals. Also requires keyboarding and other bench work and animal procedures requiring finer finger manipulation.
