Position SummaryThe Assistant Director and Affirmative Action Officer (AAO) has responsibility for developing and executing a comprehensive affirmative action program (AAP) to ensure organizational compliance with legal requirements, including, but not limited, to Executive Order 11246, Section 503 of the Rehabilitation Act, and the Vietnam Era Veterans’ Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA), and with related University policies. The AAO serves as the senior subject matter expert regarding compliance requirements and best practices and provides thoughtful leadership and consultation to university partners and is directly responsible for the development and execution of the process, including the production of the Functional Affirmative Action Plans. The AAO manages the relationship with Cornell’s AAP software vendor to negotiate fees for annual contract and ensure plan data generated from the system is customized to reflect WCM’s unique and ever-changing environment.
Job Responsibilities Ensures development and implementation of all personnel policies, programs and procedures adhere to the EEO/AA principles and monitors them accordingly for compliance. Monitors, reviews, analyzes, and conducts internal audits of processes & systems and makes recommendations regarding WCM-wide compliance with AA/Equal Opportunity, ADA/Sections 501, 503 & 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and related responsibilities. Coordinates WCM’s compliance with and provides technical assistance as well as consultation on statutory and regulatory requirements in the areas of Equal Education and Equal Employment Opportunity Assures that EEO/AA policies, programs and procedures are implemented and communicated throughout the organization. Collaborates with Learning & Development to educate faculty and staff on affirmative action policies and regulations; disseminate information to increase awareness of affirmative action issues. Collaborates with Human Resources and other internal stakeholders to analyze and guide all employment practices, including but not limited to recruitment, hiring, promotion, discipline, termination, compensation, and training in accordance with AAP goals. Works with Human Resources to ensure implementation of Affirmative Action priorities are represented throughout the talent acquisition and performance management process Partners with Talent Acquisition to develop effective metrics and monitoring of outreach efforts in accordance with AAP results. Analyze and monitor TA processes for adverse impact including, but not limited to, candidate testing, use of artificial intelligence, and Applicant Tracking System setup. Conduct a review of the affirmative action plan on a regular basis and adjust the timeline and action items if necessary. Responsible for the annual certification of all AAP’s in the OFCCP contractor portal. Manage all required activities associated with OFCCP and HR compliance evaluations/audits. Function as the primary liaison during audits and inquiries related to EEO compliance, including preparing responses to regulatory agencies (e.g., EEOC). Education Bachelor's Degree J.D., Master's, or Advanced degree in human resources, higher education administration, or other relevant discipline preferred. ExperienceMinimum (5) five years of experience interpreting and applying an equity lens to federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to Equal Employment Opportunity, and Affirmative Action, Title IX compliance, and ADA.
Experience and appreciation for working with diverse faculty, staff, and external constituencies.
Experience providing training across broad institutional lines on laws, policies and procedures.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Evidence of excellent written and oral comprehension and expression skills, as well as problem sensitivity and inductive and deductive reasoning abilities. Confidence in using database management, advanced features in Excel (pivot tables, V-look ups), manipulating and quality checking large data sets. The ability to handle confidential, complex issues in a prompt and diplomatic manner, while exercising excellent good judgment. Demonstrated ability to provide leadership in organizational change.
