Professional staff assists students in defining professional goals, obtaining career-related experiences, and creating and implementing job search strategies or plans for graduate and professional school. Learn more at: https://www.drake.edu/career/ Job Summary: Drake University is seeking a highly motivated and detail oriented Assistant Director who values equitable and inclusive student support and collaboratives approaches to working with colleagues on a campus wide level. The Assistant Director will join two other Assistant Directors in sharing career coaching responsibilities. This position will be assigned to support the College of Arts and Sciences. For this position, we are seeking a highly collaborative individual who will have a sincere and vested interest in serving Drake students and both campus and community stake holders. The anticipated start date for this position would be on or around February 15, 2025. Minimum Qualifications: - Bachelor’s Degree - Experience in career coaching, advising, mentoring, and/or higher education. We are willing to train and develop a high potential candidate who is willing to grow into this role. - Experience with, and enthusiasm for, providing equitable and inclusive student support services and collaborating with students, staff, faculty, and community constituencies. Preferred Qualifications: - Capable of managing projects with competing priorities and deadlines. - Strong organizational skills and an ability to maintain accurate, detailed records. - Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills sufficient to prepare, explain, and present messages and materials for diverse audiences and maintain positive relationships. - Proficiency with MS Office Suite and experience with or willingness to learn software and database programs including Banner and Handshake. Job Duties: + 35% - Career Coaching: · Provide students professional and career development services and support in individual meetings and group settings (e.g., student organization meetings, classroom presentations, workshops, etc.), including but not limited to administering interests/skills/values assessments, major and career exploration, CV/resume writing, interviewing, applying to graduate or professional school, development of a personal statement, job search strategies, employability skills, networking, etc. · Manage student appointments, campus referrals, and documentation via student success platforms (e.g., Starfish, Handshake, Banner, etc.). · Develop and deliver professional development opportunities for faculty, staff, employer partners, and other Career Services stakeholders on career development student services and resources; embedding employability skills in advising practice, classrooms, and college/school events; and current career, occupations, and employment issues and trends. - (Essential) + 25% - Career Events: · Establish goals for programming and events that align with the mission of the university and career services and meet the needs of diverse students along different levels and ranges of professional and career development. · Help to plan, market, host, and evaluate career services events (e.g., college/school career activities, university wide-career fair, special campus events, employer activities, etc.). · Lead and assist, as needed, in event planning logistics (e.g., room reservations, marketing and communications, campus visitor arrangements, supply orders, etc.). - (Essential) + 20% - Career Services Collaboration: · Develop and support creative and innovative programming, tools, and resources to support student development, employer engagement, and faculty/staff support. · Assist in the development and maintenance of online career services information, tools, and resources, including but not limited to office’s public website, internal portal, and social media. · Contribute to development, maintenance, and effective use of career management platform (i.e., Handshake) by students, staff, faculty, and employers. · Collaborate with key campus partners to support student recruitment, retention, and development (e.g., Admissions, New Student Programs, Student Involvement & Leadership, etc.). · Support employer relations and recruitment initiatives (e.g., tabling events, sponsorships, etc.). · Represent Career Services on university committees, as needed. - (Essential) + 15% - College/School Liaison: · Create collaboration and foster partnerships with college/school administrators, faculty, staff, and/or national advisory/alumni councils to support. college/school mission, career services goals, and student career development. · Collect, analyze, and maintain career services assessment and outcomes data for college/school (e.g., accreditation standards, accomplishment rates, internship participation, student satisfaction, etc.). · Attend college/school staff and faculty meetings as appropriate. - (Essential) + 5%- Perform other duties as assigned. - (Essential) Salary & Benefits The salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications of the selected candidate. This is a full-time, 12-month, exempt (salaried) position.
