Assistant Director - Center for Academic Success & Tutoring
Location: Farmingdale, NY Category: Professional Posted On: Mon Dec 23 2024 Job Description: The Center for Academic Success & Tutoring (CAST) invites applications for a dynamic, self-starting individual dedicated to student success to join the CAST team as Assistant Director. The CAST is the umbrella department for several academic success and tutoring services on campus, including the Math Center, Writing Center, and online tutoring. The Assistant Director will assist the Director with supervising the Center's various academic success and tutoring services and staff. They will primarily oversee the Academic Coaching program, Academic Success workshops and activities, Math Placement Testing, and serve as the new Supplemental Instruction (SI) Coordinator. The Assistant Director will work closely with the department Directors to develop and facilitate ongoing tutor and coach training and evaluation aligned with CRLA standards. This position reports to the Director of the Center for Academic Success & Tutoring. Responsibilities: + Assist the Director with supervising the Center's services and staff. + Oversee the Academic Coaching program and Academic Success Workshop series and activities. + Develop, implement, and serve as program coordinator for a Supplemental Instruction (SI) program following UMKC standards. + Work with faculty and administrators to identify high-needs courses that would benefit from SI. + Recruit, hire, train, and supervise a team of Student Success Coaches and SI Leaders. + Conduct observations and evaluations of tutoring, coaching, and SI sessions. + Coordinate, develop, and lead weekly academic success workshops. + Sustain partnerships and work collaboratively with other campus departments to offer innovative programming and activities. + Develop and maintain a repository of academic success resources (time management, note-taking, etc.), including handouts and video tutorials. + Lead workshops for first-year and opportunity programs, and conduct class visits to promote services. + Assist the Director with developing and facilitating ongoing staff training workshops and activities in alignment with CRLA and UMKC standards. + Work with the Director to establish and maintain documentation for CRLA certification. + Perform relevant assessments as it pertains to student success programs and initiatives. + Coordinate logistics and serve as primary test proctor for Math placement tests. + Represent the Center by serving on committees and participating in campus-wide recruitment events and activities such as Orientation, Open House, and Admitted Students Day. + Supervise the Center in the absence of the Director. Job Requirements: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: + Bachelor's Degree. + Minimum of 3 years experience working in a student support service department. + Experience training and supervising student or professional staff. + Excellent organizational and time management skills and the ability to prioritize work, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines. + Knowledge of skills essential for academic success (such as time management, study skills, test-taking, etc.). PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: + Master's degree in Higher Education Administration, Education, or a closely related field. + Experience working in a college tutoring or learning support center. + Three years experience working in a student support service department in a higher education setting. + Experience implementing or supervising peer-assisted learning programs. + Detail-oriented with exceptional analytical, research, and decision-making skills. + Solid technology skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office or Google Suite. Additional Information: This is a full-time UUP position. + For the first 10 working days, beginning Monday, December 23, 2024, and ending Tuesday, January 7, 2025, applications will be limited to UUP Farmingdale. + CLOSING DATE FOR RECEIPT OF APPLICATIONS: Tuesday, January 21, 2025 + SALARY: $60,000 + $3,400 in downstate location pay = $63,400 Total Compensation.
