The Center seeks an Assistant Director of Academic Affairs to:
Lead academic advising, helping students set goalsOversee the FLAS grant program, assisting with applications and complianceContribute to student recruitment effortsManage faculty and student funding competitions for research and professional developmentDevelop and implement advising practices and policiesInterpret university policies and represent the department on committeesTrack and analyze student enrollment and achievement dataCollaborate with campus units like the Career Resource CenterQualifications:
Required: A Master’s degree or higher in Asian Studies, Anthropology, History, or a related field.Research experience in Asian Studies, Anthropology, History, or a related field is essential, with a demonstrated interest in or prior research in Asian studies.Strong background in academic advising, student development theory, and higher education administration.Familiarity with federal grant programs, particularly the FLAS grant, and knowledge of federal funding processes.Proven ability to mentor, train, and lead academic advising teams.Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across disciplines and departments.This position will start fully on-campus, with the potential of hybrid work after a successful provisional period.
Utilizes expert-level advising knowledge, theory, and experience to serve as an academic liaison for students to identify academic and career goals, select appropriate courses, and plan for degree attainment. Leads the facilitation and implementation of University-sponsored activities. Manages large, complex projects.

• Advises students regarding academic core and/or departmental requirements, appropriate class selection, academic policies and procedures, and campus resources.
• Assists students with identification of long-term goals and career plans. Works to position students to meet requirements for graduation while preparing them to achieve future career goals.
• Assists college administrators in the recruitment and admissions of students.
• Acts as a mentor and trainer to other Academic Advisors.
• Develops advising practices and policies and conducts comprehensive academic, career, and other student support services as necessary. Interprets University policies, procedures, and curriculum to students, faculty, and staff. Serves on appropriate department, college, and or campus advisor committees.
• Maintains student and advising records in accordance with state/federal law and university regulations. Monitors student performance and resolves student issues with the implementation of academic resources and/or programs.
• Coordinates advising programs such as peer advising, career placement, internships, or other college programs. Collaborates with other campus units such as the Career Resource Center and Registrar’s office on campus referrals when appropriate.
• Provides information and statistical analysis to college and University units such as enrollment statistics and student achievement. Analyzes data and prepares reports as appropriate.
• Models the core values of the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) Academic Advisor.
• Maintains responsibility and oversees the reporting incidents of sexual harassment/misconduct to the university Title IX coordinator.
