What You'll Do We’re looking for an Assistant Director- Governance Specialist to join our Benefits and Protection team. In this role, you’ll be responsible for achieving efficient, timely, and cost-effective policies for the business unit to ensure compliance with state and federal laws and regulation affecting business unit products and services, specifically around privacy. Provides comprehensive analysis and guidance on complex compliance issues and develop innovative solutions to meet internal and external customer needs. Researches and shares legislative, regulatory and industry developments with senior leadership that would be impactful for the business unit. Lead comprehensive assessments of operational processes and workflows across multiple business units to identify complex risks and deficiencies. Partner with senior leadership, Compliance, Legal and Risk to proactively identify, prioritize, and address high-risk areas that could impact organizational objectives. Leverage data analytics and modeling to enhance the accuracy of risk identification and mitigation strategies. Develop and implement innovative strategies, controls, and action plans to mitigate complex business operational risks and ensure adherence to regulations that would impact multiple parts of the business unit. Collaborate with Compliance, Legal and Risk areas to design and implement effective controls and procedures to address identified gaps. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of compliance controls, recommending enhancements as needed. Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to measure the effectiveness of operational risk management efforts. Oversee the development, review, and enhancement of complex operational policies, procedures, and guidelines. Collaborate with senior leaders to streamline workflows, eliminate inefficiencies, and optimize compliance processes across departments. Ensure consistent communication and training on policy updates for all relevant stakeholders. Represent the business unit interests in complex internal and external examinations, market conduct exams, audits, and government inquiries. Collaborate closely with senior internal and external Legal Counsel, Compliance, and other internal and external auditors/examiners and vendors. Participate in strategic projects essential to the growth and success of the business unit and broader organization. Mentor lower-level staff in compliance and risk management best practices, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and risk awareness. Champion the use of technology and innovative methodologies to drive improvements in risk assessment and compliance monitoring. Who You Are Requires 10+ years of related business experience or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, or education Bachelor’s degree preferred Requires expert and broad legal and technical knowledge of laws & regulations, and contract provisions Excellent communication skills, including verbal, written and strong presentation skills High level of creativity and advanced analytical skills Demonstrates strong technical leadership skills, sound business ethics and exceptional decision making, issue identification and resolution Ability to work with complex, ambiguous information Limited travel required (5%) Salary Range Information Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer. Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly) $123000 - $167000 / year Time Off Program Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided. Pension Eligible Yes Additional Information Work Environments This role offers in-office, hybrid (blending at least three office days in a typical workweek), and remote work arrangements (only if residing more than 30 miles from Des Moines, IA.) You’ll work with your leader to figure out which option may align best based on several factors.
