Assistant Director of Language Support Programs - Office of the Provost - Student Academic Success Center

The Student Academic Success Center is a collaborative, equity-focused, data-informed, and student-centered resource for undergraduate and graduate students that offers a full range of academic resources and programs in one integrated Center. The Student Academic Success Center team focuses on creating spaces for students to engage in their coursework and approach to learning. Through academic coaching, tutoring, Supplemental Instruction, effective communication strategies, the Tartan Scholars program, accommodations for students with disabilities, and language support for multilingual learners, we offer a wide variety of opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students to deepen their understanding of who they are as a learner, communicator and, ultimately, scholar.

Reporting to the Director of Communications and Language Support, the Assistant Director for Language Support Initiatives will leverage a background in student language learning, cultural competency, and academic success. The Assistant Director will:

Partner with the Director of Communication and Language Support and Assistant Director for Communication Support Programs along with the Student Academic Success Center team on the delivery of a range of academic resources and programs related to student success.Partner with the diverse community of campus stakeholders to identify, share, and learn from the opportunities and best practices in our community related to language support and student success,Contribute to the supervision and mentoring of graduate assistants from the Languages, Cultures and Applied Linguistic department.Contribute to the further development of a cross-functional success team within the Student Academic Success Center.

Core Responsibilities:

The Assistant Director, Language Support will coordinate with academic partners to develop and deliver a slate of supplemental workshops, programming and resources that support multilingual competencies and academic success, facilitate International ITA testing, and support the Director of Communication and Language Support in the management & delivery of overall academic support programs.

Program Planning – Partner with the Director of Communication and Language Support to develop and maintain connections to across campus programs, departments, and offices related to communication and language support, including data gathering and analysis to evaluate existing services and propose revisions or new services that meet the needs of student, and create curricula and modules for training. Shared responsibility for the selection and management of a peer student staff, which can include biweekly check-in with consultants; consultant shift supervision which includes new consultant session observation and feedback, continued training, evaluation for preparedness to expand session appointment availability; management of related projects; assist with practicum training course and transition from practicum to training & consultation delivery.Academic Partnership Programming – coordinate with academic departments to develop & deliver a slate of supplemental workshops, programming in communication and intercultural domain. Mentor graduate assistant as is appropriate.International TA Testing – facilitate ITA testing and actively engage in fall and spring orientation sessions for new students.Administrative Duties –conduct ongoing and summative assessment protocols for programs under individual purview; collaborate with Success Operations Team to manage logistics for programs and services in Communication and Language SupportSuccess Center Responsibilities – curate Communication and Language Support content for Student Academic Success Center newsletter, social media presence, and website content; participate in staff meetings and professional development opportunities. create and deliver informational presentations to introduce Communication and Language Support to campus stakeholders.University Service – Actively engage in service to the University community: as evidenced by committee participation and volunteering at university-wide events and initiatives that provide both professional and personal development while engaging in the life of the university.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degreeExperience: 3-5 years of relevant work experience. Language support, ITA testing.Strong organizational skills, and oral and written communication skillsA combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:

Education: Master’s degree in education, higher education, second language acquisition or similar fieldExperience: 3-5 years of progressive responsibilities in an academic support environment.
