GRADE: MGT F

ANNUAL SALARY: $129,074

LOCATION: All USA/ National

ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW: We are the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), a union of about 2 million diverse members in healthcare, the public sector, and property services. PURPOSE: This position will work with the Deputy Director of Local Strength to help manage and drive our work to strengthen local unions. They will also support union-wide initiatives and serve as a liaison with staff, officers and external contacts throughout the union.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: (Any one position may not include all of the specific duties and responsibilities listed. Examples provide a general summary of the work required and should not be treated as a total and complete list of expected duties to be performed by employees in the classification.)

● Supporting SEIU’s mission to become an anti-racist organization, in both the support of local unions and the TWR Department’s practices and team development

● Support Local Strength Team staff in moving racial justice work and conversations with Locals, in coordination with SEIU’s Racial Justice Center.

● Provides field organizing leadership on major campaigns, including developing layered field plans, and formulating innovative and effective growth strategies.

● Supports achievement of TWR goals including new employee recruitment, overall growth, and local union sustainability.

● Works with local unions to align and coordinate program strategies and implementations.

● Manages processes to systematically assess strategies, tactics, and techniques across campaigns and generates both best practices as well as innovative approaches to growth and member engagement.

● Develops relationships and coordinates work with other departments/divisions in SEIU and (as needed) other organizations to effectively carry out integrated field campaigns.

● Performs other duties as required to support the field program and staff.

CONTACTS: Include SEIU staff across multiple departments, Local Union staff, community and allied organizations, and other individuals and/or organizations related to the successful execution of TWR goals.

DIRECTION AND DECISION-MAKING: Reports to the Deputy Director of Local Strength and must be able to act and organize time independently.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Six to eight years' experience demonstrating progressively increasing mastery in the field of organizing workers and unions. Additionally, education or experience that would provide for the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

● Must be able to handle multiple priority projects simultaneously and meet established deadlines

● Excellent planning and organizational skills

● Exercise leadership and good judgement in sensitive situations

● Thorough knowledge in proven strategies for union membership growth, including in how to build on the connection between racial justice and membership growth

● Ability to develop and train staff and worker leaders in the skills needed for growth and sustainability

● Leadership development and innovation tools and practices

● Work with a high level of independence

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must have the ability to work in an office (or similar) setting with or without reasonable accommodation. Travel in addition to long and extended work hours are required.
