Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON)

Day Shift / 40hrs/wk
Under the direction of Director of Nursing, is responsible for the oversight of nursing care throughout the facility and ensures compliance with established standards, practices and regulatory requirements by all.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
In conjunction with the IT dept., participates in the design, implementation and monitoring of all clinical (Patient care) computerized systems and the development and education of policies and procedures to support these computerized systems.Acts as role model for staff by promoting professional practice through effective team building, communication, and advocacy.Initiates and hosts staff meetings.Monitors the care delivery on all skilled nursing units to assure that standards of care are met in a manner acceptable to Masonic Healthcare Center’s mission, vision and values.Collaborates with other departments and facilitates care for best patient outcome.Collaborates with education to develop appropriate competencies for patient care. Monitors competence of staff through feedback from the Education Department and Clinical Nurse Managers.In conjunction with Director of Nursing, monitors compliance with regulatory agencies (OBRA, State of Connecticut Public Health Code) regarding clinical and technical practices through regular clinical rounds.Supervises and investigates reportable events, such as medication errors, accident/incident reports, etc. to ensure completion, follow up, and completes summaries to the Department of Public Health.Assumes the duties of Director of Nursing in his/her absence including oversight and management of the off shift supervisors and nursing administrative support staff.Acts as a resource to Clinical Nurse Managers regarding clinical decisions and employee evaluations and disciplinary actions.Facilitates cooperative efforts of all disciplines as it relates to patient care. Completes the annual performance reviews of all assigned staff.Works collaboratively with Clinical Nurse Managers to evaluate data and implement change to improve Quality Indicators and Quality Measures scores.May conduct onsite assessments of patients in collaboration with the Director of Nursing and other Clinical Nurse Managers if needed.Reviews incident reports for SNF units for completenessIdentifies potential risks related to clinical practice and strategizes with Clinical Nurse Managers to reduce identified risk.Responsible for patient satisfaction in all SNF areas.Monitors compliance of electronic medical records for completion, accuracy and quality of documentation.Understands chemical(s) used in their department under the “Right to Know” standard.Participates in surveys and inspections by the government agencies and plans of correction to correct deficiencies and ensure ongoing compliance.Reports all unsafe conditions to appropriate supervision, including change in patient status, broken or malfunctioning equipment or anything that could be a potential threat or danger to a patient.Other duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications:
Education: BS in Nursing or related field from an accredited school required. Masters Degree in Nursing, Business, Computer Science, Healthcare Management, or related field preferred.
Experience: Minimum of five years of clinical nursing experience and three to five years management experience in a healthcare setting. Long-term care experience required. Experience in clinical information systems preferred. Experience in project planning and implementation preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
RN license in State of Connecticut.
