Position Summary:
Reporting to the CNO, the Assistant Director of Nursing is responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of BSC nursing department educational and professional development initiatives.

Position Key Accountabilities:
Provides oversight of unit-based nursing staff onboarding functions. Provides training supervision, support, and development for Nursing Preceptor role functions. Collaborates with Staffing Office on staff scheduling for onboarding and continuing education. Supports departmental recruitment and retention initiatives in collaboration with BSC Nursing, Operations, Finance, Human Resource, and UTHealth Recruitment Departments. Provides input and support for staff development initiatives such as: New Graduate Nurse, Nurse Technician, Psychiatric Technician Intern, and Psychiatric Technician Certification. Provides oversight of departmental staff development needs evaluation and planning. Provides oversight of staff continuing professional practice and informatics training initiatives. Facilitates nursing staff leadership development initiatives. Develops educational plans and communications to support Nursing Department continuous regulatory readiness in collaboration with Quality Department and Nurse Managers. Ensures documentation of compliance with nursing staff regulatory training requirements in collaboration with Hospital Wide Education, Human Resources, and Nurse Managers. Serves as Nursing Department resource and champion for UTHealth Houston training initiatives. Serves as training resource for nursing staff in implementation of evidenced- based practices. Provides training support for nursing staff participation in performance improvement initiatives. Provides educational support for organizational policy and procedure changes. Prepares and disseminates departmental onboarding and continuing education reports. Represents the Department of Nursing on relevant house-wide committees as designated. Supports professional workforce development as resource for undergraduate and graduate student Nursing Department employees conducting hospital-based projects. Collaborates effectively with internal and external interdisciplinary stakeholders regarding Nursing Department educational, professional practice, and informatics issues. Represents BSC Department of Nursing in relevant professional organization nursing activities. Performs other duties as assigned.Certification/Skills:
Current State of Texas Registered Nurse license.
Minimum Education:
Master of Science degree in Nursing or Master’s degree in related field and BSN required.
Minimum Experience:
Five (5) years combined psychiatric nursing and nursing management experience.
Physical Requirements:
Exerts up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
