THE CITY OF LEAWOOD, KANSAS, is looking for an
Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation
This leadership role supports the Director of Parks, Recreation & Arts with executive-level support, policy analysis, and strategic operations and management of the department. As the Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation, you will assist the department in strategizing delivery methods and assessing the performance outcomes of its recreational programming, park management, and other services.
You will spearhead the Department’s initiative and plan to become an Accredited Parks and Recreation Department and the review of the Department’s Master Plan. Your expertise will help drive operational efficiency and effectiveness, supporting the City’s mission to serve the Leawood community to the best of our abilities.

Leading, mentoring, and developing a diverse team of parks and recreation professionals. Coordinating, implementing, and reviewing the Parks, Recreation & Arts Master Plan and Accreditation process. Monitoring and evaluating the parks maintenance and recreation divisions’ efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures. Managing the overall operations and strategic view of the parks maintenance and recreation divisions. Overseeing the parks' maintenance and recreation operating budgets. Leading the Department’s Capital Improvement Program preparation and implementation. Overseeing the approval and implementation of new programs, services, equipment, and facilities proposals.Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Parks and Recreation Administration, Public Administration, or related field with a combined ten years of experience in park management and recreation programs and five years of experience in a supervisory role. Must have Certified Park and Recreation Designation.
Preferred Qualifications: Fifteen years in a governmental entity's park management and recreation programming setting. Experience in project management and accreditation process.
