Job Overview

The Assistant Director of Project Administration supports the implementation of capital projects across campuses and university interests; helps execute project delivery by supporting efficient and effective processes to align all internal and external participants in the program, including coordination of the project managers and support resources; and collaborates with senior academic and administrative leadership to support Georgetown's mission and will cultivate and sustain cooperative working relationships throughout the institution.

The Assistant Director supports the Assistant Vice President of Planning and Capital Project's management of a technical unit delivering capital project services from initiation through turnover, and provides direction to project managers who lead teams of consultant architects and engineers, construction managers, contractors, O&M personnel and contracting specialists. They ensure all aspects of project management are effectively implemented and accomplished - such as project approvals from appropriate government agencies and community interest groups; adherence to established project budgets and schedules; schematic design reviews, onsite inspections to evaluate contractor performance, confirm the satisfactory progression of work, and assure that change order management validates scope of work, justification and pricing.

The Assistant Director monitors the work of the unit and takes appropriate steps to ensure that activities meet requirements; and works collegially across the university to ensure that design standards, project goals and the University mission are documented, reviewed and achieved.

Work Interactions

Reporting directly to the Assistant Vice President of Planning and Capital Projects, the Assistant Director interacts with University faculty and staff, community interest groups, contractors and subcontractors. For each project, they work with the project team to ensure successful project initiation, delivery, and closeout. The position will spearhead and  obtain project approvals from internal University entities, appropriate government agencies, and community interest groups; that must develop and ensure adherence to project budgets, schedules and etc.; and that must report the status of project progression through the data reporting tools for the development of written and oral reports for various stakeholders and leadership.

Requirements and Qualifications

Academic Level:  Bachelor’s required, Master’s preferred           

Degree Program (list): Civil, Structural, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering; Architecture or Landscape Architecture; Construction; Project Management; or Urban Planning; Business, Finance or Accounting.

Practical Experience (years needed and type required): 

Five to seven years of progressive management of large, complex capital projects; and / or five to seven years of progressive managerial experience in the planning, design, and construction fields. Experience in higher education preferred.

Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certification:  

Must be computer literate in MS Office, including MS Project, the Google Workspace suite of projects, and fluent in Smartsheet data reporting software.

Other Skills:

Requires a high level of interpersonal skills for daily interaction with faculty and staff, clients, GU managers, GU leadership, team members, and public agency officials.  Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.  Requires the ability to prepare clear and concise reports, a variety of matrices, oral presentations and code analyses.

Pay Range:

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:

$80,429.00 - $157,238.93

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
