The person in this position supervises staff that are responsible for the development and delivery of dynamic programs that meet the needs of lifelong learners using a variety of delivery modes. The Assistant Director has the unique opportunity to build collaborative relationships with university and community leaders to identify program needs and enhance the land-grant mission of Montana State University. The Assistant Director works closely with the Director of ATO and supervises the Business Operations Manager ( BOM ) in order to provide oversight for general office management including HR, fiscal management, and physical office operations. Contract Type Classified Salary If other, please specify Recruitment Type Open Position Details General Statement MSU Academic Technology and Outreach ( ATO ) is an academic unit of Montana State University. ATO works with a variety of campus and community partners to develop and deliver continuing, professional and lifelong learning courses and programs for a wide variety of constituents. The Assistant Director for Continuing and Professional Education has primary responsibility for the outreach mission of ATO , overseeing the development and delivery of dynamic and entrepreneurial educational opportunities, in a wide variety of delivery modes, for constituents of all ages. Duties and Responsibilities + Oversee the development, design, implementation and assessment of non-credit courses, conferences, workshops, and programs. + Facilitate internal and external partnerships as well as funding opportunities to support program development. + Supervise all staff involved in program development and delivery including Program Managers, Registration Coordinator, BOM , web manager, and student employees. + Communicate and promote MSU / ATO non-credit services to the campus and community at-large + Manage program/course budgets to insure program viability. + Manage 8 separate designated accounts in collaboration with the BOM , and coordinate with the Director and BOM on overall ATO budget management. + Provide general office management and establish and communicate effective practices and procedures within the office for all staff. + Communicate the work of ATO through annual reports and other promotional opportunities. Liaise with Registrar and Registrar staff on process and procedures for courses that will appear on an official MSU Transcript. + Primary responsibility for hiring and supervising student employees. + Primary responsibility for documenting all procedures for program development, budgeting, delivery, evaluation, and reporting. Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills + Bachelor’s Degree or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience. + Demonstrated experience in program development, management, and implementation Demonstrated experience with budget management including monitoring revenue and expenditures. + History of positive collaboration and partnerships with a wide variety of constituents. + Excellent oral and written communication skills. + Experience with program promotion and marketing including print, social media, and web communications. + Experience with supervising staff, prioritizing and organizing large volumes of work for multiple staff, and establishing and/or modifying procedures as needed for efficiency. + Experience with critical thinking and decision making to optimize the development of effective educational outreach programs. + Demonstrated experience using personal computers and various software such as word processing, spreadsheets, presentation, email, and collaboration tools. (Microsoft Office products preferred) Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills + Understanding of the land-grant mission of Montana State University and how continuing and professional education and outreach contributes to that mission. + Advanced higher education degree or coursework such as a Master’s Degree or equivalent education and experience. + Experience working in a higher education environment.
