Overview of the Position
As the Assistant Director and Senior Actuarial Consultant for GRP Pricing, you will be at the forefront of managing and enhancing GRP’s actuarial tools and pricing processes. This position is a visible and critical role within the Group Reinsurance Plus Actuarial team, and reports to the Lead Pricing Actuary for GRP and is designed to prepare you for future leadership opportunities, positioning you as a potential successor.
You will own and manage the experience pricing tools for life and disability products, ensuring accurate pricing of experience-rated cases through close collaboration with Underwriting. Your role will also involve supporting client-specific renewal strategy work and maintaining manual rating tools for Supplemental Health products.
In addition to these responsibilities, you will be a key resource in the implementation of new clients, overseeing model development and state filing, and efficiently handling ad hoc requests from clients. Your collaboration with counterparts in Group Benefits Actuarial will be essential to ensure that updates are appropriate for GRP pricing tools, and you will play a key role in the actuarial area, providing opportunities for continuous interaction with external clients and various functional areas.
You will also lead development and testing efforts for LTD Incurral/Incidence and STD Incurral, as well as manage and lead testing efforts for Experience Rating /Core Buy-up tools (LTD and STD). Your expertise will be instrumental in managing client-specific incurral tools and internal tools for Critical Illness,
Hospital Indemnity, and Accident products. Additionally, you will oversee VSH and PFML rate filing and model development, provide miscellaneous tool support, manage the Experience Rating /Core Buy-up mailbox, and publish tools to SharePoint.
Finally, you will implement new Voluntary Supplemental Health clients and integrate new clients into Experience Rating /Core Buy-up tools, ensuring a seamless transition and optimal client satisfaction. Your role will be pivotal in driving the company's strategic initiatives and enhancing its competitive edge in the market.
Experience & Skills
Strong technical, analytical and data skills
Proficiency in programming, especially in VBA and R
2+ years of demonstrated experience in Reinsurance, Group Benefits pricing, or related actuarial function.
ASA or ACAS preferred – candidates with actuarial experience not pursuing exams will be considered.
Self-motivation, creativity, time-management, and project-management skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey technical concepts to audiences of various levels and diverse backgrounds.
Flexibility and willingness to adapt to changing priorities.
Process improvement mindset and skilled at developing efficiencies.
BA or BS degree, preferably in mathematics, actuarial science, statistics, or related field of study
This role will have a Hybrid work arrangement, with the expectation of working in an office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).
Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
