Job Summary:
The Assistant Dirt/Pipe/Prep Superintendent will assist in the management of Prep Department crews consisting of 3-5 people. This individual reports to the Prep Superintendent and will work in conjunction with project managers that are assigned to specific jobs. Individual will assist in determining the proper equipment, material, trucking and crew that are required for each project. Individual works with the Prep Superintendent, customers, project managers, general contractors, and sub-contractors as needed to make sure the job is completed correctly. The opportunity is available to develop, participate and learn key roles and functions within construction projects, quality control and construction operations which will transfer to skills needed in an advanced management position.
Essential Job Functions (*=Non-essential tasks):
+ Assisting the management of Prep Department crews, which includes scheduling, training, coaching and motivating
+ Overseeing excavation, pipe installation and stone placement operations and other miscellaneous operations for assigned crew(s)
+ Overseeing site correctness prior to crew moving on site
+ Calculating production rates
+ Calculating dirt, stone and pipe quantities when necessary
+ Calculating the number of trucks needed to hit desired production rates
+ Determining the proper equipment needed to complete scheduled work
+ Ensure all crews are adhering to all applicable safety requirements including any project specific requirements.
+ Ensuring foremen complete daily paperwork in a timely fashion including dailies, safety checklists and toolbox talks
+ Overseeing finished product to meet quality standards and customers' expectations
+ Making decisions and resolving job site problems quickly and accurately
+ Daily communication with foreman and Project Managers as needed
+ Ability to educate Project Managers on technical aspects of excavation, pipe and stone operations.
+ Ability to learn how to analyze job costs

Requirements:
Experience:
+ Previous hands-on construction experience is preferred, with some knowledge of Heavy Highway work
+ Previous management of direct reports
+ Minimum of 5 years' experience in excavation/pipe work
+ Familiar with rules and regulations of associated unions
Education:
+ High School Diploma or GED required
Skills and Abilities:
+ Able to produce construction related schedules as needed to request and schedule crews and equipment
+ Must have skills and abilities to perform construction math and mechanical skills
+ Knowledge of road construction techniques with the ability to understand state and county specifications
+ Demonstrated ability to read and understand blueprints
+ Demonstrated strong decision-making and problem-solving skills
+ Strong Communication and interpersonal skills for working with crew members, INDOT/owner personnel
+ Valid driver's license
+ Demonstrated ability to work with technical equipment and/or devices
+ Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision
+ Flexibility in managing multiple priorities within tight time constraints
+ Develop and maintain peer and customer partnerships
+ Fair, honest and straightforward in dealing with others
+ Demonstrate high ethical standards.
+ High degree of accuracy, thoroughness and attention to details
+ Knowledge of Microsoft office software
+ Must be a self-motivator
+ Must be a team player

Working Environment:
+ Individual will be working in a field environment
+ Individual will be working with internal customers (Project Managers, Superintendents, Support Departments [Safety, HR, Accounting, etc.])
Supervisory Responsibilities:
+ Assist in leading prep department crews of 3 to 5 employees
