Assistant Engineer

Johnson Service Group is looking for an Assistant Engineer for one of our Client’s in San Jose. The Assistant Engineer will support regulatory compliance projects, such as microplastics sampling, and assist with water quality monitoring programs at various treatment plants. Responsibilities include performing fieldwork, compiling operational data, and assisting in the development of dashboards for predictive analytics
Job Duties: Support critical regulatory compliance projects, including the initial required round of microplastics sampling. Assist with the implementation of the filter monitoring and inspection program, including collecting water samples at various treatment plants, performing filter floc retention analysis, and compiling and graphing operational data. Contribute to the development of operational and water quality data dashboards, advancing predictive analytics and AI readiness. Perform fieldwork at water treatment plants, reservoirs, or creeks. Assist water quality engineers with bench-top, pilot-scale, and plant-scale studies to optimize treatment processes, preventing water quality violations and addressing complaints. Support source water management projects by complying with regulatory sampling and monitoring requirements. Compile operational data and update Excel tables and charts. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Education: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in civil engineering, environmental engineering, environmental science, or a related field. OR Possession of a valid California Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certificate with two (2) years of associated paraprofessional engineering experience. Valid CA drivers license Experience: Knowledge of water quality monitoring and analysis. Experience working with operations, maintenance, and/or field staff. Bench-top or pilot study experience is preferred. Understanding of water treatment, water chemistry, and process engineering. Technical Skills: Proficient in software applications such as Microsoft Office for completing work assignments. Basic laboratory skills, including measuring pH, chlorine residual, and turbidity. Basic programming knowledge (e.g., VBA Script in Excel, Matlab, R-code). Familiarity with drinking water regulations. Other Skills: Ability to work independently and collaborate with others when needed. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Able to prepare clear and concise reports, correspondence, and other documents. Willingness to work outdoors year-round, under varying climatic and geographic conditions. Able to carry or maneuver objects weighing up to 50 pounds Rate: $44.62 part-time 30 hours per week
