Job Description:Under the direction of the Essentia Health Chief Legal Officer, is responsible for handling complex legal matters or projects in a variety of areas including contract administration, medical staff, general corporate matters, tax exemption, Stark law, fraud and abuse, as well as corporate finance and business transactions. Drafts, reviews and participates in the negotiation of contracts, joint ventures and affiliations. Conducts legal research and provides counsel to members of management and various departments on legal, compliance and regulatory matters. Works with the Chief Legal Officer or other management team members on matters involving patient care, employment and other critical issues arising at Essentia Health’s various hospitals, clinics and other healthcare facilities. Assists Chief Legal Officer in workload management and administrative functions.

Education Qualifications:

Required Education:

Juris Doctorate degree

Required Qualifications:

Minimum of three years’ experience in a law firm or corporate setting practicing health care law, with familiarity/expertise in some of the following areas:  fraud and abuse (Stark; AKS); medical staff; nonprofit / exempt organizations; privacy and compliance; contracting; real estate; healthcare regulations; transactions; and health care operations.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Four to six years experience in a law firm or corporate setting practicing health care law, with familiarity/expertise in some of the following areas:  fraud and abuse (Stark; AKS); medical staff; nonprofit / exempt organizations; privacy and compliance; contracting; real estate; healthcare regulations; transactions; and health care operations.
