Assistant General Counsel VP, Government Relations & Public Policy

About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking an Assistant General Counsel responsible for providing legal advice to the organization or specific lines of business to enable the organization to comply with various legal parameters. Position is responsible for confirming that that business activities, contracts, disputes, and complex transactions are conducted with proper legal due diligence.

This Assistant General Counsel will support public affairs activities related to Government Relations and Public Policy (GRPP), including a focus on providing advice on advocacy on proposed state and federal laws and regulations impacting multiple business groups and/or enterprise functions, and preparing briefings on developments for senior Legal Department leaders. Such candidate will be able to easily interact and manage relationships with partners throughout the organization (including the GRPP team, businesses, control partners, other Divisions in the legal department, and risk partners) and external resources (including contract attorneys, trade associations or law firms).


In this role, you will:

Lead or participate in complex initiatives and deliverables and contribute to large-scale planningHandle matters that have a significant impact on the Company's operations, strategies, or profitabilityProvide legal advice on matters for management of the Corporation and its subsidiariesServe as a legal advisor to the businesses and enterprise functions within Wells FargoReview and analyze complex large scale or long-term challenges that require in-depth evaluation of multiple factors including intangibles or unprecedented factorsDraft complex legal documents, review and negotiate documents prepared by outside counselIdentify and analyze complex legal issues, develop conclusions, and make recommendations for issue resolutionDevelop and maintain relationships with partners across the Legal Department and the Company and influence timely implementation of new legal or regulatory obligations


Required Qualifications:

5+ years of Law experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, educationActive State Bar membership or the equivalent in a country outside the United States


Desired Qualifications:

Experience engaging with trade associations for large legal departmentsExperience advising on legislative and regulatory developments Familiarity with enterprise risk management frameworks and functions and regulatory expectations for risk management at large banks and financial holding companiesAbility to analyze legal issues in substantive law in area of practice and provide effective advice to clients on complex legal mattersAbility to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities and deadlinesStrong attention to detail and accuracy skillsExcellent strategic and analytical skillsStrong ability to think independently and provide credible challengeAbility to take an active role in the education, mentoring and training of less experienced team members


Job Expectations:

Ability to travel up to 10% of the time

Pay Range
 

Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to achievements, skills, experience, or work location. The range listed is just one component of the compensation package offered to candidates.

$144,400.00 - $300,000.00
